Why do you like Iliad and Odyssey?

The Illiad and Odyssey are are good way to be introduced not just to ancient Greek and Roman Gods, but it gives a great insight to those cultures.

when I was younger I loved the Odyssey because it was such a fantastic adventure story.  As I got older I fell in love with the Iliad because its got the entire sum of human emotions in it and it feels more 'real' to me in the characters.  Both of them appeal to people because they're both so recognizable - we can find ourselves and people we know in them.  And they've managed to do that for people for centuries.  Not a bad run.
