I'm Japanese that came to the US at a young age. But yet when we tried living in the US for several years my family and I got all of those stupid Asian slurs thrown at us? My sister and her husband whom are both Japanese were driving through some small town in Cali and they stopped at a restaurant and they said they wouldn't serve them and they needed to go. Now we get foriegners trying to come to Japan saying "I'm currently learning to read, write and speak Japanese, What kind of a job can I get there?" "Will Japan like me? I love anime?" So when and if you do make it over here in Japan don't be pissed off if you also get treated a certian way.

  1. I'm not gonna lie, at 1st it was anime that got my interest, anime brings Japanese culture so I compared it to real Japanese culture out of curiosity, and the cool thing is at least tha Japanese have a culture, Americans have no culture, they live by the if it feels good do it rule and have no sense of morals, to them stuff like religion is something you pick like a certain flavor of a bag of chips, they know nothing about Arabs, Asians, Africans, Europeans, South Americans, lol not even Canadians.

The only thing I can't see myself liking about Japan is the cuisine, no offense, like sushi and seaweed and octopuss puffs, however for some reason I LOVE okonomiyaki and ramen. ^^

Also LOVE Japanese scenery, it's such a nice place to look at ^^ especially the mountain areas.

  2. That's extremely stupid of the person.  But not all Californians or Americans in general will treat you that way.  It's just the person being an idiot.

I like the Japanese style and culture.  Like how most things are simple and how materialistic items seem to be handcrafted one by one because it's so detailed.  I'm not sure, but when I buy something in Japan and compare it to probably the same thing in America, I just get the feeling that the one I bought from Japan is much more higher in quality, even if it's the same thing.

The food is rarely as oily as Chinese food and it's great if you're used to it.

I also respect how everyone is taugh to be extremely courteous.  I'm sure there are couteous people in America too, but it seems like the Japanese are just extremely helpful.  Like most people I've met would help you and try to understand you.  It's nice how they respect everyone.

Also, I've heard that Japan is trying to cut down on pollution.  My teacher said that they are still probably the number one producer in pollution, but they are taking the greatest effort in trying to preserve nature at the same time.

It is annoying to hear all the "Asians all look alike." or "Japanese and Chinese, is there a difference?"  I like Japan well enough, but hearing that there is seemingly no difference in Asians is insulting.  There are differences, that may be subtle, but not all Asians are the same.

  3. Whoa! That's evil!!

I guess some people just don't know how to respect other races

I mean, Its hardly your fault your a difference race

I want to go to asia, I hope people wont do that to me!

But I do get that type of stuff a lot too

Im from south africa and live in the uk now, and Im white, and people are like to me "Why aren't you black? Did you have to hunt for your food? Did you have lions as your pet? Were there elephants in the backyard??"

    stupid ay?? ;)

I just say yes to all those questions... you should see their faces! haha!

  4. I love Japan for its culture and most of its customs, as well as its scenery, which is beautiful.

I teach English to Asian students, and have Japanese roommates.

Japan's society is vertical, whereas Western society is horizontal.

Japanese people, who grew up in Japan, are taught to have respect for the elderly and others in a position of authority. This respect is engrained within the Japanese language.

In Western society there is nothing wrong with being rude to your boss, even if it embarrasses him or her.

I also find the Japanese to be much more mature than Westerners of the same age.  Stereotyping seems to be a trait of Westerners, even in Canada.(I hate this part of Canadian life).

When I moved here from the Netherlands, the same racist things held true, such as 'when do you wear your wooden shoes?' etc.

Japanese society seems to be much more flexible in accepting new ideas.

  5. I love Japan very much,I treat as if it were my own country. The things I like about Japan, first of all the history I think Japanese history is amazing because of how long it is.Japan was an isolated feudal military dictatorship then at the blank of an eye it became a modern country in 1868.Then it ended up became an imperial power after beating russia in 1905,now ever since the 1980's Japan has been an economic power.Second thing I like the culture I find it unique, how it formed over the centuries. In ancient Japan it was a stone aged type culture, then in the nara period it became chinese influenced. In the heian period Japan began to take out it's chinese inflence and make their own culture.Of course Japan now is a mix between traditional and modern.I find it cool how Japan took other things it adopted from other cultures and made it into it's own.Im not one of those otaku kids.Im not going to get pissed im pretty well aware of the stuff foreigners deal with.I also study Japanese im in the intermediate level.I apologize the way the people in my country treated you.I get pissed when people are racist towards asians.I agree with you on that one asians do get that same exact comment all the time, and they say that all asian countries are the same.People in america say that racism dead, that's pretty false.Asians and middle easterners face a lot of racism here in the U.S.

  6. Ah, the old all-Asians-look-alike c**p. It really does suck, doesn't it?

Why do people like Japan? Because most of them have a very fixed opinion on it, mostly coming from anime and manga, and they only see the good side of it. It isn't meant to be offensive, by the way; every country has a good and bad side.
