  1. it's a martial art that is a bunch of fun, and has really a lot of different aspects to it.

it is a mix of the martial element with dance routines and acrobatic moves and there's music envolved.

contrary to most martial arts capoeira is very playful, which makes that even kids love to do it.

I think that the main reason I love capoeira can be described in one word:

    axé

the energy that comes from capoeira.  Once you've experienced the rush that comes from a group of people working each other up through music and song to up their game you are hooked for life.  This purely natural rush is better and stronger than any pepdrug I know of and the high just can't be compared.

  2. Why do you?

  3. I don't actually do capoeira, but I do like watching it because it looks cool as h**l.

I also like the fact that most the people I know that do it don't try to act like it's something that it's not, and I respect that.  By this I mean they don't walk around telling people how deadly it is and that's why it's not used in competition, etc.

To elaborate, I'm not saying it's not a good martial art, I happen to think many of the techniques could be quite effective in the striking game for both self defense and combat sports.  But I do think it's more of a performance art than a martial art, and I like that the people who study it don't usually deny this, unlike many other traditional martial arts that are clearly more performance than effective technique but their participants are in denial about it.  I won't name the arts I'm referring to but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

It's also incredibly good exercise for both cardio and strength.  You gotta be in bad@ss gymnast shape to be good at it.
