Why do you meat eaters find it SO funny to tease us vegetarians?

I mean, come on! You eat vegetables too! Dont you have a favorite? We just happen to like them so much, we eat them for every meal. What is so bad about that? We get our protien, trust me. Eggs nuts and beans contain plenty of protien. Heck, some of us even take multivitamins! Not all of us are sickly and dangerously skinny, I'm not what you would call thin and Ive been vegetarian for a year now.

Not all of us are trying to force our beliefs on you either, but if you start something, you are asking for it. Vegetarian lifestyle is pretty healthy, it saves the planet, and it saves you money. http://www.flex.com/~jai/articles/101.html

Animals are killed JUST FOR FOOD. they dont die happily, dont live happy lives..they are slaughtered, just for food. And we feel bad for them. Is that so horrible.

Why do you tease us?

  1. I'm not sure why some meat-eaters love to prey on veg*ns. I liken it to the same reason that people pick on others who are a different race or ethnicity:

If people are not familiar about a particular group, rather than learn about it and become a more well-rounded person, they lash out with insults and jokes to make themselves feel better. Apparently that group stands for something or represents something that is lacking within themselves and they feel inadequate in some way. Hurling jokes and put-downs (in their demented thought) levels the playing field and they don't feel bad about themselves anymore.

I'm not sure why anyone would feel threatened by a group of folks who don't eat meat, but I guess some are. They like to generalize and make fun. To each his own, but they're only showing their own insecurities.

    Just MHO.

  2. because every vegetarian is the same. thinking there above us and laying facts on us about how much better it is financially to be a vegetarian and how its better for the world.

  3. I think some vegetarians are just too sensitive about the whole thing and some omnis are just being stupid.. Teasing is meant to be funny as is done among friends.. It's not any different from teasing your friends about their hair, clothes, taste in music, movies etc

On the other hand, perhaps they are becoming more defensive about it because some omnis won't leave them alone.

Thing is who came first: the preachy vegetarian or the intolerant omni. Like the proverbial chicken and egg question, I doubt if you are going to get a definitive answer.

  4. Not all meat eaters tease vegetarians.

I'm subconciously a vegetarian...well partially. I only eat chicken and fish. That's because I dont like meat not because of any values or beliefs.

And you vegetarians also have to understand that we started killing animals as our way to get food and survive....just as wild animals do.

  5. Because(like you apparently) being a veg for many is simply an affectation to get attention?  Congrats, you're getting it. Once a veg starts crying about being oppressed they lose all credibility with me.  I have plenty of veg friends that don't whine and somehow no one picks on them.

As for saving the planet, get over yourself.  You want to do something productive, spend a buck a day to feed a kid in the third world instead of depriving yourself to get sympathy and harrassed.  I sponser operations to fix cleft lips for $30/month. Try doing something positive instead of being another victim.
