  1. Have you ever heard of the term 'vital' organ?

  2. The liver is among the very most metabolically active organs in the body..It actively synthesizes most of the plasma proteins, acute phase proteins, clotting factors, transport proteins, etc. It is the organ for controlling blood sugar by producing glucose from its stored glycogen  and releasing it into the blood stream when it is stimulated

by glucagon..and taking up glucose and redistributing it when it is stimulated by insulin. It is the major detoxifier in the body , metabolizing many endogenous hormones and other compounds in the gody as well s the majority of xenobiotc ( foreign to the body )compounds such as toxins, insecticides, alcohol, etc .It produces albumin which is the chief protein involved in maintaining osmotic pressure and is vry useful in transport of many compounds in the blood .  The liver has a limited ability to "regenerate " so enhanced metabolic activity can occur in smaller amounts of liver tissue. These are just some examples of the many mnay roles that the liver has....makes one wonder why we have two kidneys but only one liver ??

  3. The liver is necessary for survival; a human can only last up to 24 hours without liver function. It plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, and detoxification.

  4. It's the main "laboratory" of our body where  happens all the metabolic pathways.

  5. the liver plays a vital role in immunity. they are responsible for filtering blood. after leukocytes gets rid of antigens, macrophages engolfs the dead cells into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver.

the liver also degrades chylomicrons remnant (chylomicrons after triglycerides have been extracted)

    it metabolize alcohol

it's also involved in some endocrine functions like the production of erythropoietin which stimulates the bone marrow to produce RBC's
