Why do you never see the headline "Skeptic Wins the Lottery"?

Certainly all the skeptics appreciate and intensively study science including mathematics and statistics shouldn't they be hitting the jack pots every time and making the casinos go broke?

If these skills exist why have we never seen it demonstrated?

Skeptics try to live life in the realm of reality. Most skeptics I know do not even play the lottery because they are skeptical of games of chance as they are of mediums and such.

This questions sounds like a rebuttal of skeptics due to skeptics asking why psychics do not win the lottery. I am sure some skeptics have won the lottery by skeptic I mean those who do not believe in psychics and other beliefs, it is just that a psychic if one ever wins the lotto will say it was their psychic power that allowed them to win. whereas the skeptic would just say that someone had to win sometime and the  numbers just fell their way.

I understand that you're trying to turn around the funny quip, "Why do you never see the headline 'psychic wins the lottery'", but I don't see the logic here. One can be an expert in statistics, but you can't predict random number generators (because they are random), so how would that knowledge help you win the lottery?  Meanwhile, psychics are supposed to be able to have special knowledge such as seeing the future, which is why the psychic version of the joke makes sense and is funny.

As far as casinos you have a better shot there than with a lottery, but usually it requires a great memory so that you can count cards, and that is a skill that is hard to develop. Casinos always have the upper hand.

First of all, the science of "odds" is in the favor of the casinos.  One cannot "hit the jackpot" every time because things like slot-machines are based on random number generators.  The key word here is 'random' - there is no system that predicts the results of randomness exactly.

Second of all, skeptics don't play games of chance under the name of skepticism.  If someone thinks the lottery is a scam, they don't play it - because they are skeptical of the odds of winning.

Third, when people win they aren't labeled as skeptics by the newspaper writers.  That would be like saying "skeptic getting married" or "skeptic died today" or "skeptic go shot in bank heist".  Something like that would be near idiocy.

You never see the headline "Skeptic Wins the Lottery" because skeptic powers don't work that way. Skeptics aren't vending machines! They can't control their powers perfectly all the time.

I guess you don't believe that skeptic powers really exist. I realize that unless you have skeptic powers and abilities you would be doubtful, and the scientific evidence supporting the existence of skeptic powers has been completely debunked by some guys. But skeptic powers are real! I have experienced them!

Just because skeptics don't win the lottery doesn't mean skeptic powers don't exist!

You have to concentrate on probabilities as it occurs to luck.  Skeptics don't win the lottery because they are too busy trying to discredit those who have experienced the paranormal, which is completely unrelated.  To predict winning lottery numbers, you would have to be pre-cognitive.

If you want to put a skeptic in a box just think of them as people who are afraid to accept that which cannot be explained by human understanding. What is the study of science? It is a series of tests to find the most probable answer for things we dont understand in many aspects.

Look at Darwinism for instance, Why am I a skeptic on this theory? Because through science the chance of probability that "natural selection" could have happened for humans is impossible. Big numbers game yet our society, even though the numbers say different, are taught this is the gospil of life when nothing further from the truth can be said on that topic.

99% of people who experiance paranormal issue were indeed skeptics prior to the experiance. When dealing with the relation of supernatural however this is where you have to take them and explain that things happen outside of there little box. Spirits, demon, etc. are not bound by the laws of physics. When you ask a person to realy think about the word eternity, we as humans can only give the defanition, we cannot think eternal because our world is directed by time.

Spirits are in an eternal state. They are not bound by laws of physics and most always prove this when humans have contact with them. When a skeptic looks at a story or tries to debunk it, they are useing such a small box to seek an explanation that it's scary. I know this has nothing to do with your lottery question but hopefully it sheds some light to others who wonder why we have to deal with such close minded people. Until it happens to them, they wont think outside of human reason. Human reason is our downfall IMO. It keeps man from expanding his knowlage and makeing discoveries due to the brainwashing of the education system.

We cannot allow fear to dictate our push towards the discovery of unexplainable things. How did we come to know about gravity and knowing that space had none? Many skeptics thought it was a crazy concept but someone reached out of the box and didnt care about the reactions from the public at large.

Anyone who favored statistics and odds would know that buying a lottery ticket has about equal odd with throwing your money in the dump and making a wish.

For the record, I don't gamble anymore, but my brother who is very good with math makes quite a bit of money playing poker. Not enough to live on, but last month he hauled an extra $800 from the poker tables. Heavy math skills help a lot in poker.

Most casino games are the player against the house, and payout odds are always in the houses favor. That means the only way to make money, is if you are lucky.

Check out the odds on a Keno card someday. The chances of hitting 1 number are 1 in 4, but the payout is only 2 to 1. This means the house is raking 1/2 of the prize pool and any given player, no matter how much they win, is only likely to make back 1/2 of what they gamble.

Lottery odds are actually a lot worse then keno, but most people don't realize it because they get lost in the sheer size of the numbers.

It is does not matter, whether it is Skeptic or Psychic.. It has to be your destiny  to Win jack pot, that why even psychics cant see numbers. Like myself, I dreamed many time 3-4 numbers out of 5 ( at local lottery 5 out of 42) and won many times with those 3 and a few times even with 4 numbers.. But never 5.. usually even if I dream all five when I wake up I cant remember  all numbers correct. the Last time I dreamd it was 12 14 29 2 6 and I played them and the numbers that came up was 12 14 29 2 and 9 not 6...

Huh? Skepticism means using logic, and looking for evidence, before you believe something. Skeptics have no special skills.  Casinos use maths and statistics, and hire mathematicians and statisticians (all skeptics). That's precisely why they make a profit. All casino games are in favour of the casino, except for Blackjack, which is marginal if the player is excellent. Most players aren't excellent.

You must mean why do you not see "PSYCHIC wins the Lotto!" b/c if you meant to write skeptic you would sound ignorant. The only game that math can beat is Blackjack. Also Texas No-Limit Holdem Poker is a game that requires skill a lot more than luck, though luck is nice.
