Question:

Why do you own an SUV?

All wheel drive cars handle the snow better. Trucks and vans can carry more stuff. Wagons, crossovers and minivans can carry the same amount of people. Is it the topheavy rollover factor, the bad gas mileage, the extra cost of buying and maintaining or are you compensating for something? Idiot.

  1. It's because of the rollover factor that I don't and never will own one.  I just bought a 2008 Subaru Impreza last wk.

  2. The SUV is a combination of the other vehicles.

It doesn't do any one of the jobs as well.

If I carry 6 people off-road with camping gear what works better?

I thought judging people was a mark of intolerance?

If I pay for the SUV, the fuel why do you care?

  3. So more people can fit in the vehicle

  4. Don't judge people on the type of vehicle they own, and you certainly show no class by calling anyone an idiot. I do not own and SUV, nor do I really want to. Keep your judgments to yourself.

  5. i guess families do, when they have to haul a trailer for something, and have to haul a bunch of kids and their stuff, and they need to go offroad sometimes, or drive through snow.

  6. I made a diesel powered cabinscooter..it gets 150mpg.

do you know what a Cabinscooter is?

  7. All wheel drive cars cannot tow heavy trailers, cannot haul as much as an suv, nor do I want one.

  8. Because my Wrangler can get to more remote camping locations than an A-4 wagon, off roading is fun, but it's tough to take seriously in an Element.  I don't need to carry a lot.  Tent, girlfriend, cooler, beer, backpack, dog and cooking utensils.  All neatly fit into a small, nimble vehicle that isn't as likely to high center on an over grown logging road, can fit through smaller areas, and has a top I can remove so that the dog and I can both enjoy a nice day when we're going camping.

That and it's nice to watch people fume when we pass them with the top off, I've got my shirt off, she's in a halter top and the dog's got her nose sticking out farther than my snorkel.

  9. I don't own one because I don't like them. Also because they're big, get bad gas mileage, don't handle nearly as well as my car, and the roll over thing. I've driven a couple rentals (got stuck with it since they had no cars) and ridden in them plenty of times. I look out over the road and yes, its nice to sit up high but the lanes appear very narrow compared to the view from my car (Corolla).

If I ever had to buy an SUV for any reason the only one I would accept is a Volvo. Volvo invented the roll over technology that comes standard in their SUV. ..and it works VERY well. I know first hand because I was in the test vehicle with several other riders when they put the system in action on the "moose avoidance course". On this course they mashed the gas, got to a speed of 45 mph and yanked the steering wheel to avoid the full sized moose statue standing on the track. I was invited to the test track when I still had my Volvo 240.

  10. that's a pretty ignorant question coming from a TC.  I think it's because of personal preference.  Note, I don't own one, but it doesn't matter because there are so many other questions you could ask about similar subjects, and the answer will be personal preference or something very arbitrary

Why do people buy Tag Huear watches?  Why do people pay 5 dollars for a Starbucks coffee?  Why do people buy luxury cars?  Why do people buy 600 dollar jeans?  I think you should reconsider who the idiot is.

  11. It works for us.

We haul four kids plus friends in the mountains through any weather and tow a variety of trailers from time to time. It's great on road trips, and safer than a small car in a collision. I don't mind paying extra for the advantages it offers us.
