Why do you pee standing up?

Question

Ok, so whenever I use the restroom, I squat using the toilets and not using the ones where you stand up: The custom and rules from where I'm from. But why do men in America stand up while you pee?

When using a urinal, it's the only way.  I always use a urinal in a public mens room.  At was raised to pee standing at the toilet, so it's what I'm used to.  It's quick and easy, and I love the sound that it makes.
