1. What are some of the underlying reasons for why you are in athletics? Is it for fun, for relationships, for personal glory, or what?

2. Why is it important for people to try their hardest? If I am in the top 10% of players why should I work to get better?

  1. people play sports for every reason in the book.

it's everything to some people, which usually are the good players. the ones that slack or in other words SUCK do it to either stay fit or cuz their friend is doing it or to get approval of a parent. which is rediculas i think [ even tho i can't spell it]

  2. i love volleyball because it does take alot of skill.

and because it doesnt really make you tired cuz u dont have to run aroundd.also because when ur serving the last point n u get itt....... you think your on the top of the worlddd.

    and it feels greattt.

  3. Because I was to be an athlete......well because volleyball suits my body type (somatotype), I love it not only for fun but gives me a different feeling....

I also do cycling on my own!!!!!

Most people try their hardest because is what they had learnt, to work hard and get better as soon as possible...

    yeah it's wrong!!!!!!!!

  4. I like being athletic because it gives me something to do. For me its fo fun and interacting with girls my age. It is the most important thing to try your hardest because that is the only way to get better. You should always work  to get better because you are never perfect and you aren't a master at everything. Try to learn maybe how to jump serve, or if you know, try to make it more constitant (sorry for spelling)

  5. I play volleyball because I love it. I guess it's a passion that I cannot let go of. It's in me for good!

    1. All of the above! I love every part of it. And, there is something about sporting a school sweatshirt that says, "look at me...I made the team!"

    2. Because everyone wants to be the best they can be. It's not something that's regarding just sports. It's a desire we are all born with!

    Hope this helps!

  6. 1. Athletics is always about fun, relationships, and glory. Those that say that playing sports isn't about getting recognition for hard work are trying to be humble. Sport, in itself, satisfies an urge for competition in human beings.

Personally, I play and coach because I love the sport, the fun, and I love teaching it.

    2. Someone may be in the best 10% of players at their current level, but at the next level they will be back at at the bottom of the skill "totem pole." I've seen players who were literally voted #1 vball player in their state get embarrassed on their first day of college practice.

Working to get better is ingrained in competitive people. If you play volleyball on a team, then you are, in essence, competitive. Even if you win the local adult rec league championship every year, there is always room for improvement because people are improving in order to beat you, and you, as a competitive person, don't want them to succeed.

Those people that would classify themselves as non-competitive, do not play sports on a team. They play it for fun at picnics and they don't keep score.

  7. i liked volleyball because it's fun, and you get to meet new people and bond with your teammates. i think it also teaches you some life skills like not being a sore loser and working with other people.

if you're in the top 10% of players you should work harder because wouldnt you want to be number one ?

  8. 1.I'm not sure if this quesiton really applies to me, because I am not in "athletics". I'm not a particularly athletic person, and I don't play any other sport except volleyball. I play volleyball because I love it. Simple as that. I think it's incredibly fun and rewarding, I love the people who play volleyball at my high school (people on the other teams and the coaches), and volleyball is basically my "thing". I love getting awards on volleyball, for that reason. It's always nice ot be recognized for doing something you love.

    2. I work hard for the same reason. Working hard at volleyball is one of the only things in my life where I will put in that amount of (physical) effort, because I can't think of anyhting more rewarding than being good at the thing I love to do. If your not trying your best, what's the point of putting in the amount of work to get to the top 10% anyway?

  9. it helps you;

    gain confidence.

    Become more fit

    gain friends

    gain respect

    have fun

know you are good at something

it is just really fun and my personality is really compeditice so i like to play sports

  10. I am in athletics because I want to lose a few pounds (and for fun). You should try your hardest because you want to get better and better to be the best OR to get a better work out.

  11. cuz volleyball is fun and takes skill and all the rest are just kk cuz they make u physically fit.

  12. I love playing volleyball cuz its part of my personality... and its really fun to spike it at people... lol ne way i like playing sports cuz it keeps you active.

  13. 1> The underlying reason is that volleyball is not so physical, and I want to win games without getting hurt that much.

It was not for fun when I started playing volleyball, and my relationship with other athletes was already there even before I switch to 90% volleyball. It was just too much injury playing basketball that forced me to pick up something else.

I am having fun these days, after realizing competition is NOT what is all about life.

2> I know there is no limit to the sky, and I have to try my best to get better. It was just self-satisfaction.

I was coaching a women's team in college and I wanted to show them everything that is correctly said and done.

I am still coaching, and I am still trying to show my players what is the right way to approach, swing, serve, set, and ... pass (once I warmed up).

By the way, I never had the "limit" (or call it intelligence) of being able to realize that I could be in top 10%, so I am always trying to get better. I do want to compete against top-level teams, realizing I AM a little better than some of my opponents :)

  14. love playing volleyball and love to show off in front of the girls. the best part is too hit the ball on someone's face. Thats the highlight.
