Why do you sleep a lot when your sick?

I was just wondering, because when I'm really sick I'm asleep almost the whole day, and all night.

  1. it helps conserve energy to put toward other things, such as making antibodies.


  2. you have a temperature and this extra heat produced zaps your energy

    also all your energy is used to fight infection


  3. Your system needs time to heal itself - it is done during sleep. As they say, sleep is the best medicine...

  4. B/c your body is putting a whole lot of energy into fighting off the infection and so other functions become less active... hence you don't feel like eating or really doing much of anything.

  5. becuase your body knows how to take care of itself and in this case rest is the key

  6. Because your sick, weak and your body knows rest is the cure.

    Sleep allows your body stuff to fight the ilness.
