Why do you still own a land line if you own a cell phone?

Just curious why people still have their land lines. Here's my reason, REALLY DUMB, I know : (

The only reason I still keep my land line is the NFL Season Pass Network requires it for Direct TV subscribers. They use it to to determine if your local game should be blacked out, incase the game isn't sold out I'm told.

I feel like an idiot. Definitely not made of money, far from it in fact. Just an NFL nut, so is my wife. Costs us the same to watch all the games tv (subscription + land line) as it would to see the games live. We been to many games, just prefer watching at home. Thinking about dropping my line and subscription and watching from a bar that has wifi.

  1. SImple...

Better quality sound, much more reliable, and if I have lanline, I can give that number out instead of my cell!!!!

WIth my land line I can choose to forward the calls to my cell or just ignore my landlind when I am not home!!!

I can transer my land line to my laptop and do all my calls from my laptop, including voice messages.

    Unlimited minutes!

Landline allows me to make foreign calls very cheap.

My landline phone can email me my voice message!!!

Landlines now are much more advanced then 10 years ago.

By land line I mean Voice over IP phone service.

Its where the phone connects a a box which is connected to the internet.

  2. Because Naked DSL costs as much as DSL plus a phone line.

OTOH, if you have Cable Internet Access, you can get an ATA and hook your cable system to that and use a cheap VoIP provider like sunrocket (whoops, RIP) or vonage.

  3. maybe some people get very poor service were they live

(me who rarely gets one bar)

  4. So I can use my fax machine.  Also, I have digital phone, and long distance is free so I can talk to anyone I want to talk to all over the country.  That way, I don't waste a lot of minutes I may need when I am not at home.

  5. My husband and I are wanting to get a security system for our house and they require a land line!  ugh

  6. Yes, cell phone service in bad weather is not reliable and I'd rather have a dedicated land line just in case. Plus, I don't want the calls that come into my home, coming into my cell phone all day. They're always bs calls from my insurance companies or my credit card companies trying to sell me more of what they have.

  7. I don't. I live in rented accomodation and I've never had a land line. You can get a mobile USB for internet connection and a mobile phone for phone calls etc so I don't need one.
