Why do you support the Fairness Doctrine?

I just got done going to rassmussenreports.com and saw a poll that shows 47% of people are in favor of the Fairness Doctrine.

How does this bill NOT violate Freedom of Speech?

The argument is that nothing gets censored, just both sides have to be presented. To stay consistent with this argument then I would guess you would also favor a bill which said you can only protest if both sides are equally represented. Or all the internet bloggers need to have both sides presented. This is ludicrous!

To me you are violating Freedom of Speech by restricting access for people to present it. What happens if your station is no longer successful and has to shut down because of this bill? You have effectively limited Freedom of Speech.

If you don't like a station, don't support it and turn the channel. TV and Radio stations remain on air only because people relate to what they are saying. To me that is one of our most powerful forms of freedom.

  1. I don't. And I never understood the logic behind it.  If a majority hold the position it stands to reason it will be presented more often. I know the US gov't looks out for minorities but the FD is absurd. It would give credence to every cockamamie idea there is.

  2. I hope OB can sit in front of his laptop and read your question and comments on Y!A, cos if he is made President he promised to support Fairness Doctrine messing with my freedom of speech; I just don't understand why people cannot see him for what he is. (He had a running on this discussion with Dr Dobson and another person about few weeks ago; it was not very nice.)

  3. Of course it's our most powerful forms of freedom, that is why they are trying to violate the freedom of speech. If you look at Liberal talk shows they are not listened to as much and most barely survive compared to the republican conservative talk show stations. This is where citizens get the majoirty of their information from, most people do not have time to investigate everything the gov't is doing, so they will listen to news that they can trust.

The liberals are specifically targetting this knowing that if the fairness doctrine is implemented hardly anyone on either side will listen to what the station says because it's has to be on both sides, I probably wouldn't listen to a station once it's 50% liberal, and that is what they are after. When they cut off your news reports then they control all the news your listening to, which is mainly all liberal stuff. And once this is passed they have a precident allowing them to continue to affect the freedom of speech. What most people refuse to see is that this is a extrememly major step towards communism, allowing the gov't control of what we can and cannot say.

  4. The fairness doctrine is a poor attempt to regulated the peoples ideas! If a idea or belief as so few followers that it requires such a law to even exist, its a failure and needs to die a quite death.
