that the bible is the most purchased book yet the least read? Why would someone purchase a book and never read it. Most Christians I ask have never even read the entire book and I find it interesting someone can claim a religion yet have not read the entire text explaining it.

  1. it's hard to read because it's like reading a math book, or some other boring school book. It's not the kind of book intended for entertainment, it's intended to educate about Christian History, and educate us how to live, who to live for, what to live for, and other things. Steven King books are for entertainment. Well, I'm a science fiction fan, and so I found it very easy to read the book of Revelations in the Bible several times. Revelations is not science fiction, but it's full of symbolic stuff that makes it a pretty far out book to read, I found it entertaining. On the other hand, I've never cared for History in school so I have the hardest time trying to read the Old Testament, especially with the lists of So-in-so begat so-in-so and on and on. Not that I think any of that should have been left out. On the contrary, I think the geneology stuff is very important, I think the entire Bible is of utmost importance, but you are right, it's hard to read all the way through. Oh, I also think it's because people have so many other obligations in life that they put Bible reading off to the side. It's not like school work where you have a due date to turn in homework, or a project due at work. It's a responsibility you have to take on yourself with no one looking over your shoulder to make sure you actaully complete it.

  2. i would buy it just to burn it XD

  3. There are no pictures?

    Addition:

I love AmLaa's answer it explains a lot.

  4. 1. People have bibles just to have them, without even ever opening the book.

    2. Statistics about sales of bibles are very unreliable. It has been claimed that the bible is the most purchased book, but you must consider how many of those purchases are made by churches or other organizations who are giving the bible away for free.

    3. Many 'Christians' don't think they need to read the bible because their priest tells them all the important stuff on Sunday.

  5. The Bible just takes too long to read.. its VERY long.

  6. Have you read a bible. Have you seen the amount of c**p contained within a bible. Just try man. Just try.

who the heck wants to read the entire genealogy of imaginary people, the raping of "virgin girls" and the gruesome and unjust murder of countless people.

The bible is the most incoherent, inconsistent, tedious and vile piece of literature i have ever read.

  7. i been reading the bible for a year and i still to go 11 more chapters and i agree with you how can someone who haven't read the bible claim to know more than others

  8. I've read maybe a 40% over the last 2 years.

Christians call the Bible the "Living Word". The Bible calls all scripture "God breathed"

Getting meaning out of the Bible requires the Holy Spirit to reveal spiritual meaning from the text.

I've heard one teacher say that every word and punctuation has spiritual meaning and is worthy of meditation, even the boring geneology in the OT (these show the decendants of Christ).

Reading the Bible as a non believer or even a Christian who is reading it out of a feeling of obligation, is useless. ( Maybe not useless, that's a strong word, but it's meant to be read with the guidance of the Spirit.)

  9. Have you read the entire bible?

I tried once.  It's a big mental strain to try and even remember the most obvious details.

It's better to focus on specific things and argue effectively than to read the whole thing yet argue ineffectively.

I will make an exception for those who have many years on their heads, and have memorized the bible.  one man comes to mind, but his name eludes me.

  10. I think most intend to read it but find it hard to follow in some areas and they lose interest or become discouraged.  It would help if they knew how the bible is layed out before they began.

  11. I have hooked up my computer without reading all of the directions, and I still claim my computer.

The new Testament is the most important part of the bible to read.

  12. it was written by a bunch of dope smoking hippies
