You know-- he thief, murderous, apathetic side? Is it inappropriate for a school lesson? Too real? Too unnecessary?

  1. Idk. some little kids can't take it.

And most of all that historical stuff is usually 80% made up anyways.

  2. For one thing, you are calling him those names based on OUR morals and way of life.

If you were raised in the same environment and time period, you would be of similar character.

They do not hide the truth, just water down the time period, and how people acted in that time period.  If the schools actually taught about the time period, Columbus would have been like any other person. He just paved the way for massive European colonization into the Western Hemisphere.

  3. Some people cant take it I guess. The man sure wasnt noble, thats for d**n sure. I suppose its just easier to tell third graders that Chrisopher Columbus was a hero and discovered America, When he landed in the philipines. And the Vikings ( The Norse people)  Discovered America like 1000 years before Columbus was even there. They just didnt colonize.

  4. why should we care about the bad things he did because hes know for his good

  5. Maybe that it's not really US history since the only impact he ever made for us was discovering the Carribbean Isles

  6. Very little is really known about Columbus.  The character we now celebrate as columbus may have been cobbled together from the biographies of two different men.

  7. I remember in Junior High we had an essay about whether he was a hero or not. We had to present an argument about his crimes or his achievements. So some schools do teach both sides.

  8. My teacher talked about that.  They hide it because it's not in the textbooks and some people might get offended.  Public schools can't trod on too many toes.  It upsets the funding.

  9. casue hes a god d**n@d national hero

sometimes an image is more important than the truth

the simposons had an episonde like that

  10. dude you would be surprised how many lies the us government l tells us
