  1. sensitivity to light!

  2. because they're in an incubator with special lights and equiptment and stuff that if it gets in their eyes it could cause serious vision problems.

  3. I am pretty sure this is not done for ALL premature babies. My son was born 6 weeks early and they did not tape his eyes shut. It all depends on the baby.. some babies eyes are developed at birth and some arent, it just depends on how early they are I guess.

  4. my son was premature and his eyes were not taped shut...this is my first time hearing this! its funny all the things i hear AFTER everything lol

  5. Their retnas are not fully developed causing the light to be extremely sensitive and possibly damaging.

  6. They don't tape them shut.

In some cases a prem baby may need to be under a lamp because of jaundice. The light is very bright. They cover the eyes to protect them from damage.

  7. They have to, they can't handle the light and if they didn't do it than they could turn out blind.
