  1. its not just veterans that need to be honored, it is current people who are in the service that need to be honored too

  2. American Veterans don't seek honor. All they want is fair treatment. A simple handshake and, "Welcome back," goes a long way. Instead, because public opinion is frequently so capricious and moronic, they get treated like dirt.

Here are some thoughts on the subject.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." (George Orwell)

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing that is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” (John Stewart Mill)

“These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like h**l, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: ” (Thomas Paine)

“Pacifists are among the most immoral of men - they make no distinction between aggression and defense. Therefore, pacifism is one of the greatest allies an aggressor can have.” (Patrick Henry)

"I went into a public house to get a pint of beer.

“The publican he turns and says we don't serve redcoats here.

“The girls behind the bar they giggled and laughed fit to die.

“I ups and outs into the streets and to myself says I,

“Oh, it's ‘Tommy this’ and ‘Tommy that’ and ‘chuck him out, the brute.’

“But it's ‘savior of his country’ when the guns begin to shoot."

    (Rudyard Kipling)

"If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a soldier." (Unknown)

I tend to honor them because I know what some of them have been through and what they've suffered. And I've come back to an ignorant public who are ready to condemn something about which they know nothing just because it's "cool" to do so. Were it not for those they condemn, they would be shot for some of the things they say. And they're too stupid to realize it. Stupid must be "cool" too. I also know what they are likely to suffer at the hands of a public who "supports the troops but not the war." The general public has absolutely no idea...

  3. Time honored tradition, I mean why would you not want to Honor Those who were willing to possibly and did lay their life on the line for your Freedom > Because Freedom is Never Free.

    Vet-USAF

  4. I won't add much, most of the responses have covered it.  I will say this much, however.  We have taken a job that takes us all over the globe and places us in danger everyday, we don't get much money and our benefits are decent, but we all love our country and will do our best to defend it, no matter where we are asked to go.  Whatever your feelings about war and peace, it is the soldier who says, I will stand up when needed, all you have to do is ask.  I think that is pretty admirable.

  5. They are willing to leave their homes and families and give their lives, to defend the rest of us.  They are incredibly selfless and brave.  They are the best America has to offer.

  6. They willingly risk their lives so the rest of us won't have to.  Without them, any other nation could roll in with their armies and conduct whatever atrocities they think they can get away with on us.  I can't think of any nobler endeavor or anyone more worthy of honoring than our veterans.

  7. because they are defending you and out fighting for you, duh what kind of question is that?

  8. There are people who have willing to serve and protect the very rights we exercise on this website.

    Freedom of speech for one.

The list is long and the people drafted as well as volunteers have done this for over two hundred years. We have freedoms here to speak out against our President and the things he does. We can affect the political process. Most generally these enlisted men and women have been the blue collar children of America. The salt of the earth as they say.The officers are college educated and with the enlisted make for a colorful mix of class, education, religion and ethnic backgrounds. The very reason this country is strong, our differences.

  9. They serve our country and some of them even sacrifice their life when they were involved with the war. I think whoever join the military should be honored.

  10. Because we sacrificed our rights and put our lives on the line for you.  And, just for the record, those currently on active duty are veterans.  The word does not necessarily imply the past tense.

  11. They decided to take a job that could cost them their life so the rest of us don`t have to.

  12. uhhhh, they put their live on the line  b/c our government asked them to. and u dont see why they should be honored???? wow
