she was important because she stood for royalty. i agree with the first answer. it was her lavish lifestyle...german girl becoming queen of france...(caused aloooot of whispers). Her affairs. She WAS paris hilton in the mid-1700s. She was also the cause of an alliance between Austria-france. She was married to Louis and that sealed the deal until they wanted a baby!

Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen (November 2, 1755 – October 16, 1793), known to history as Marie Antoinette (pronounced /maʀi ɑ̃ntwanɛt/), was born an Archduchess of Austria and later became Queen of France and Navarre. At fourteen, she was married to Louis-Auguste, Dauphin of France, the future Louis XVI. She was the mother of Louis XVII, who died in the Temple Tower at the age of ten during the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette is perhaps best remembered for her legendary (and, some modern historians say,[specify] exaggerated) excesses and for her death: she was executed by guillotine at the height of the French Revolution in 1793 for the crime of treason.

i absolutely love marie antoinette....i read a lot about her...she was an important person in history.... she was the last queen of france....she spent money with out thinking about it, and a lot of that money went to charities...she best friend was  murdered and mutilated for accusation of a homosexual relation with the queen...the was beheaded for accusation of treason...the day she was brought to france to meet Louis-Auguste she had to speak french and her original language was german......i love her!!!
