Why do you think most of British columbia's lakes are skinny ? ( British columbia is a province of canada ) .

Most likely due to the work of glaciers during the last ice ages. The mountains direct the flow of the ice through the valleys which in turn act as gigantic scrapers and gouge out softer rock that become long, thin lakes as the glaciers melt.
