My hamster just died a few days ago (her name was daisy) and i'm upset but i'm coping. Of ciusre she had her funeral and me and my bff dug her a whole picked flowers made her a lil pillow blanket put her fav toys and everything else in her shoe box to R.I.P. Anyways she was about a 1 1/2 years old and hamsters usually live to be 2 -3 years old. Idk if sumthing was wrong with her (she died in her sleep btw). Or if it was sumthing i did but i always took care of her and what not she was my baby. Plz tell me if i did anything wrong or if it was normal for her to die at a lil younger age than usual. Thanx!!!

  1. Sorry for your loss. I have lost 2 hammies this summer. The same age as yours. They are lucky to live to 2 years anymore. 3 years is the longest my vet said she has seen one live.   I have one left who is 2. So you now know 1 1/2 years is really average.

  2. I haven't had five hammies yet. Our kids love them play with the hamsters, Hand tamed is the way to go.For some reason hamsters aren't living a long life. If you are keeping his cage cleaned and fed properly and gave plenty of water to drink, THen you didn't do anything wrong. Someone had the bright idea to give the little hamster sunlight and fresh air one day. Wrong thing to do.Hamsters do not like the heat

Needless to say the outcome wasn't nice. So keep the temp down. Not to exceed over 80 degrees. .

  3. I am very sorry to hear about your hamster's death. That was really touching that you gave her a nice burial.

The average age of hamsters is anywhere between 1 -2 years based on their genetic profile (long living parents etc) and quality of care. Your hamster has lived for 1.5 years which is a very good age and shows the excellent care you have taken of your hamster.

Hamsters are very hardy animals and hardly show symptoms of any sickness until they are very ill. Your hamster was old and died of old age. Hamsters normally live for only 1-2 years and most hamsters die suddenly like yours with no symptoms of any sickness at all often leaving their pet owners wondering what happened. It is very difficult to point to a particular cause of your hamster's death.

I do hope you get over the grief soon and remember only all the great times you had with your lovely little hamster.

  4. You sound like you took excellent care of your hammy.  She probably just died a natural death.  Unless you know the exact date of her birth, she may have been 3-6 months older than you were told.

I doubt that there was anything you could have done to prevent her death. Rodents often get malignancies that are difficult to detect, and that could have contributed to her passing.

I'm truly sorry for your loss.

  5. Hello

its not your fault of course. Unfortunatelly, they often die :(

i had the same thing with birds and then i stopped to buy them.

Now i have a dog, little English cocker :)

I advice you to get little dog, this lovely creature will help you with your stress and additionally, they are not as "weak" as hamsters.

You never know how long hamster will live, even if you take great care and I am sure you did. The same thing happened to my neighbour, hamster "just died" :(

  6. Give it an autopsy

  7. she died normally... they dont live long. sorry!

  8. I had a black bear syrian hamster named Daisy who died at about 1 and 1/2 years.Loved her very much and will always remember her. They don't live all that long. That's about the average age.

  9. No nothing went wrong. but it was getting close.

also i once had a hamster that just passed away that lived for like 4 years. he was amazing!
