  1. Because orbs and vortexes and many other things in photographs all have known causes.

A photographer would tell you that orbs are caused by dust. I used to work as a photolab technitian in college for fuji and they had charts which told you the causes of all kinds of problems that occur with photos. These problems can be recreated over and over. No reason at all to suspect paranormal activity.

I have yet to see an orb, vortec, or unusual blob or color photo in which the problem could not be diagnosed by that chart.

  2. There are plenty of normal, natural explanations for them.  They can be reproduced via these normal and natural explanations.  The most glaring--and overlooked--is the fact they are only visible on film or video, and never with the human eye.

There is no reason to think they are spirits.  For some reason many true believers seem to deem anything anomalous as paranormal in nature.

If I see an anomaly I assume it has a natural explanation until all possible natural causes have been eliminated, then I will consider the possibility the anomaly is paranormal.

Many true believers seem to think if there isn't an immediate and apparent cause for the anomaly, then by default it's paranormal in nature.

Even if an orb doesn't have a natural explanation, who says it's the spiritual remnants of a human being?  This is just plain wishful thinking.

In conclusion, there is no reason to think orbs are spirits and plenty of reasons to think they aren't.

  3. digital cameras are responsible for capturing so many of  the so called orbs..they are a mix of humidity and dust...everything that's so called paranormal can be explained

  4. Many orbs have been disproved and rightfully so. But many are still unexplained. Personally I believe them to be something not from this dimension. I'm thinking along the lines of Einsteins' theory of relativity and what happens when things vibrate faster than the speed of light.

I'm not sure orbs are actual spirits of people who've died or spiritual entities who never inhabited this earth. Either way they seem to have intelligence.

  5. To me Orbs are just dust. I mean it's not everyday u see something float across the room in a ball shaped form. I get skeptical after seeing orbs on Ghost Hunters because a lot of the places they go to are old. I couldn't sleep last night until 4:00 in the morning bc i felt like something was on my bed watching me and i have these creepy porcelin dolls in my room who freak me out too.

  6. From my experience, I have only had orbs appear shortly after a death in the family, or when I feel the presence of a spirit.  The first time I had an orb appear in any of my pictures was after my Dad had passed away, we buried him on Christmas Eve of 1995, that Christmas was exceptionally hard on all of us.  We didn't know whether or not to even have Christmas.  We did decide to have Christmas and in every picture there appeared an orb in spots that my Dad would have usually been.  Later at each of our weddings orbs had appeared beside us, as we walked down the aisle.  At my Mom's memorial service orbs appeared near each of the tables we had set up our own little memories of her.  Every once in awhile I capture orbs around my daughter who was born the year my Mom passed.   My Mom did not know that I was pregnant, and I see alot of my Mother in my daugter.  It's ones own opinion to what these strange circles of light could be but from my own heart I believe that these orbs are the spirits ways of letting us know that they are still with us, even though their physical body might not be.

  7. I am lucky to have a blue orb in my home, so I have been able to study it a little.  It started showing up after my wife put her mothers urn upstairs on a shelf.  The orb drops out of the ceiling right under the shelf upstairs.  It seems to have the capability to pass through wood, floor tiles, carpet, doors, glass and just about anything in a home.  It appearers to move in all axes and time, plus it seem to move over people and around objects in a room.  It can move through things but chooses to go around some things, that would seem to suggest it is guided by an intelligence of sorts.  That maybe just my spin on it, it is possibly just the way it works if it is not a spirit.  It also glows from within, it is not a reflected light.  I have seen it in the dark and it is bright enough to light things up, about like one or two bright LED lights.  This has been seen by at least two other people many times.  It also shows up at my sister in laws house and she says it acts just like I have described here.

Edit:  I'm talking about something I see with my eyes, not those dust thing in pictures.  I called them spirit lights long ago, but orbs seems to be the nomenclature du jour.

  8. I believe in the paranormal highly.

Orbs are usually explainable.....I see them a lot when I am on the PC.  I believe it has to do with the electromagnetics and waves, and my eyes.

To the guy about the blue orb...I would love it if I could email you.....I would love to see such a thing.  Do you live in Iowa?

You can email me at:  akia12004@yahoo.com

To Fairy Queen:  Neat answer.  With my out of body experience I know that one is all that they are minus the body.

But......since time does not exist after one is dead...I thought the next 2nd to them was being judged by the Holy Spirit.

Wiccan Rider......maybe we each call it as we think it is.  Maybe to one it is an Orb and to another a ghost?

  9. I havea deep interst in the paranormal and always enjoy looking at pictures and watching shows trying to see what else is out there. I NEVER bought into the orb thing. And I hate all teh sites that have hundred of pictures with 95 of them being some claimed "orb," another 2 being a socalled vortex, and the last 3 something that is truely questionable.

  10. Well, "orbs" are not disproven as spirits by science. Science by its very method can't do that. For all the rich experimental verification of Einstein's Theory of Relativity (for example), there's nothing stopping someone from insisting that the theory is actually wrong and it's just God directly manipulating the universal constants in this specific way. That certainly wouldn't be a scientific explanation, but it is an explanation of sorts that can't be absolutely disproved.

So we could pile up mountains of evidence for orbs being photographic artifacts (and there certainly is much evidence for this), but that can't stop a true believer from saying "Yes, but, THIS particular orb is a ghost". What science can do, however, is provide natural explanations so that appealing to untestable, unfalsifiable supernatural explanations is not only unnecessary but increasingly absurd.

  11. Hey we all do that. We answer one question and it brings up something we want to know. That is good.

I think you know where I stand but I will go ahead an say it here most orbs are just dust, pollen, rain, snow and other natural explanations. Now I have seen pictures of orbs which I have no explanation  but they are few and far between. Out of the hundreds of photos I have taken with film and digital I have only two that I cannot explain. At first I wrote one off as  a possible bad spot in the film it was on my negative but the thing that confused me was the two ladies that were with us was using different cameras and film and the got the same type orb. in the same spot  It was glowing light like. I have considered these paranormal but am evaluating even that now. I am like Nuff Said on this I just merely say it is unexplained.

Being unexplained does not mean it is paranormal but it also does not mean it is not. Personally I am not convinced any orbs are ghosts.

You gave an excellent reason of some of the anomalies in your answer o my question.
