  1. because it's interesting, and it teaches us a lot about our selves as we are now.

  2. The world would be much more bland if we could ONLY live in the present.

  3. History teaches us things. And like the first person said, those who don't know it are doomed to repeat it.

Take this global warming stuff for example. People are taking it way out of proportion and think its such a big deal, when if they would just look back in history, they would see that the world has always been changing.

  4. -To learn about what's happened on our planet.  We live here, so we should should probably have some idea of our history.

    -To learn about human nature

-To learn from the mistakes people made in the past/study what was wrong and how to avoid it (or at least try)

-To learn about the successes of the past

-To credit people for their contributions to life

  5. Those who forget history...are doomed to repeat it.

  6. The world seems to be becoming a smaller place.  We have instant communications and access to information at our finger tips. I believe, as a resident of this third planet, that I have an obligation to learn as much as I can about the world and our histories on it. I feel everyone has this obligation. Each day there seems to be less room for ignorance, because each day the risks tied to ignorance grow, and some day the least little bit could effect us all. Countries, people, values, mores, religions, none of this came from vacuum. The more we study, the more we learn, the more we understand, the more we learn to understand. How much better it would be to have the histories of our sons and daughters grace the earth, than their blood to feed it.
