Why do you think teens are choosing to have s*x before marriage? What will help them make better decisions?

I am a part of an Abstinence Education Ministry and really need help developing our curriculum and drama presentation to reach kids of this generation. When I was growing up in the 70's we played house, rubbed and ran, and even kissed and never told, but nothing like what kids are doing now. Any suggestions??

It's called raging hormones, and some will control themselves,others won't. I think just educating them is all you can do, they are going to do what they want anyway and there is no way to stop it.

I agree that is sad how so many young kids are getting involved in s*x at 12 and 13 years old. They should be enjoying life and playing with friends not having s*x. I think its becasue they see that the cool mature people all have boyfriends and girlfriends and that s*x is just something to do to make them cool. Also tv is making not a big deal. I mean i just saw an advertisement for a new tv show on abc family for a show revolving around a freshman in high school hooking up with a boy and getting pregant. This is on ABC FAMILY! I mean its letting girls know oh my gosh girld are having s*x when they get into high school, then i have to have s*x to be cool. When i was in high school I sort of joined into the most popular group for a year. The things they talked about were crazy! I had never talked about these things with my gorup of friends. They would talk about "dropping the D" meaning dropping the dome, meaning oral s*x. Anyways i really dont think ther is anything you can do to make them think differently. I just hope is some fad thats going to go away soon. I think waiting for the right person is the time to have s*x. And kids think this is the right person, but really is just the person right NOW. They dont realize that they wolnt be staying with their middle school love for the rest of their lives. I dont know, it drives me mad and i hope my children dont have to go through some innication of s*x to be cool or something! I also dont think threatening them with the fact that s*x makes babies is working. Take Juno the movie kids see that if they have a kid they can give it away to a happy little family or put it up for adoption or get an abortion without  their parents not knowing. A baby is not what their thinking about when they are dropping their pants.

No. s*x is all over TV and in the music. s*x is also a very pleasurable experience, so teens will try it.

ooohhh I think your dead wrong with the "kids these days" attitude lol teens have been promiscuous since the early days my friend. Is it right, well of course not , but it happens all we can do is educate and hope that they listen. We shouldn't teach Abstinence we should teach safe s*x (which is more likely to be listened to) don't be so naive. You and your Church should really think about talking to these kids about all forms of safe s*x and waiting until marriage. Knowledge is power I'm just telling you what me and God know!

I am afraid our culture just pushes kids development way too fast.I was not a geek and I got my first kiss the day I graduated high school and I do mean just a kiss I think they need to have it reinforced at school and at home that it is OK an normal to wait.It seems to me that the homes overall breaking up and not being defined makes this all the more hard . A lot of these kids are 3rd and even forth generation of kids who did not have a mother and a father in their homes,

So just like a child who was physically abused often abuses their child because that's what they know as love.And they say things like my daddy whupped me and I turned out OK.

Kids from single parent homes say My Mom raised me OK alone.I don't need a husband. I have an uncle who escaped Communist Hungry till we that the people over there were like  worms in a radish meaning the fact that there were many other wonderful things a worm could eat But because a radish was all they ever knew they were happy. Sadly the wormy radish has become the norm instead of the exception. Wishing you much success

Times are changing sad to say. They think they are mature now and no one can tell them that they are not invinsable. Its really hard. I work with high school kids and if they think you look down on them they wont ever speak to you again. Kids now are so overwhelmed with the means of media and what it portrays the normal american as looking. I really think that everything is over sexed and it is getting harder and harder for the kids because they want to fit in and there is tons of peer pressure. I also think that it does not help when these 13 year olds think it is ok to dress like she is 25 going to a club. I suggest focus on the media...ask kids questions about how pictures, movies, etc. make them feel. Have them explain to you where they are coming from and where you are coming from. It never hurts to enlighten them with the thought that everyone was once young and had urges but their body is sacred and a temple and should be viewed as such and not an object of desire. I went to a high school where there were practically no virgins and we even had a daycare in our school. I've had a four year relationship and I'm still a virgin. I'm 19 now and I think what worked for me was being surrounded by all the teen mothers and realizing that I didn't want to be like them, and it was also a feeling of being special because I wasn't like all the other girls around me and guys respect that

because kids now have way too much freedom aka spoiled and their parents are permissive aka irresponsible because all they want is to have s*x and if marriage fails - find another lover have s*x again. this explains the 50% divorce rate now. no attention is focused on the kids. so kids have lots of d**n freedom and have their own way of thinking. and obviously, while they're young they're easily influenced by external sources such as peer pressure and media portrayal of celebrity life. s*x in media, tv, music...everywhere. s*x revolution lead by notable s*x researchers like kinsey and freud took this generation to the next level. now how is abstinence education ministry gonna reverse this movement? this is like the #1 thing that everyone wants to do because it feels so d**n good. all this s*x education about how dangerous s*x can be --- to be honest i don't think it works. teens still do it...unprotected. then they go to the doc and they found out they got herpes, some regret and some does not give a d**n. only std they're afraid of is aids. the golden rule for most people now is enjoy life while you're young and this is exactly what everyone's doing. the only way to stop this is to have strict laws like a new law that prohibits s*x under the age of 18 and if caught consequences will follow. also, ease down on the s*x in the media and stuff. this is very unlikely gonna to happen because s*x sells but the laws on the teens...maybe...just maybe...

I think the best way to help teens make the right choice is to be COMPLETELY honest with them about the choices we made and why they were right...or weren't.

When my boy (now 3) is old enough, I intend to be honest and tell him that my wife and I did NOT wait until marriage to have s*x and no, the sky didn't fall in on us, but we do regret it...not because s*x isn't a great gift of God (it is) but because:

a) It's such a special gift that it should be reserved for ONE person that we intend to make a life with

b) Because s*x CAN result in children, we don't want to have it with someone we aren't convinced will make a good dad or mom

c) If you have s*x before marriage, you're risking "comparing" the s*x you have with that person with everyone who came before for the rest of your life...which is terribly unfair to them
