Why do you think that CA has outlawed homeschooling?

Homeschooling is usually done by strong loving families and

has been shown time and again to produce a better educated

child. Family time together is also improved as homework is

done by evening. I think the liberals don't want strong families

so we can all need their wonderful programs!

  1. I though homeschooling was a liberal idea?!?! it always was over here in the UK. Done mainly by hippies.

I think kids need school, so they can have a life away from their parents, make enduring friendships and shared experiences and have something in common with other kids.

  2. So that the schools can get tax money for kids to attend their campuses.  If parents find out that the schools will get less funds if they home school, then the schools will start losing enrollment dollars.

  3. How funny...I live in CA, and most of the people I know who homeschool are hyper-liberal!

At any rate, as glurpy stated, California has not outlawed homeschooling!  The primary reason behind the discussion on this is that parents are not necessarily qualified teachers.  Yes, they're more qualified than a public school teacher to teach faith, and the ethics that the parents feel are most important.  But this doesn't make them qualified to teach English or Math, and these lessons are important.

This discussion is going on in other states, as well, and I think it's a valid one.  It shouldn't be too much to ask a parent to take a test, to confirm that they're equipped for their task - and I think it's probably healthy for these parents to study up on the subject matter before trying to teach it, as well.

  4. This one is easy. One word: Fascism. Coming to an Earth near you.

Yes, friends. The ugly beast of fascism is on the prowl and this time, the nasty fellow disguises himself in the cloak of both conservative and liberal. He ain't took concerned with adults yet. They are easy, anyway. Too old to do much, too concerned with making a buck. But the kids, if he can get the kids, than he can use the kids against the parents!

So, a judge in CA interpreted the law so as to better assist his housepet Fascism in satisfying its appetite for brainwashed youth. Funny thing is, though. Around the same time that the judge ruled, CA announced it will need to lay off thousands of public school teachers. As if homeschoolers needed more evidence of the utter ineptitude of the state to run its education racket.

Hitler banned homeschooling, too, by the way. And we see what happened there. Right?......We do remember this, or am I mistaken?

  5. Same reason Hitler did. In a controlled society there can be no free thinkers. There's a global movement right now to ban homeschooling altogether and put all children in the hands of the state.

  6. Your question implies that a law has been passed that outlaws home schooling. It hasn't, that's not true.

Your last statement implies all homeschoolers are conservatives with weak families.  I'm a liberal home schooler who supports strong family units, as are many of the home schoolers I know.  There are studies showing diversity among homeschoolers, as well.

It's one thing to ask, "has CA outlawed homeschooling?" and/or, "are liberals against homeschooling?", but to just ask a question that AUTOMATICALLY assumes both provokes a strong reaction from me. I feel idignant by your inference's because I would enjoy recognition for my position as a liberal, feminist, secular homeschooler who supports close-knit families.

I hope this answer provides some reassurance about California's home school environment, as well as information about the variety of people who choose to home school.  I have found that joining the home schooling community creates many opportunities for strange bedfellows. Conservatives+ hippies and everything in between.  We can still choose to stay among our own within the homeschool community, but as outsiders in the educational system, our unification truly benefits us... and for me, the overall benefit has been a deep broadening of my mind.

  7. CA hasn't outlawed homeschooling. It's a rumour that has spread based on something in the news a while back. It was some judge's opinion on who should be allowed to homeschool, that's it!

Btw, be careful with your quick judgement of people based on whether they are "liberal" or not. I know some very strong, loving, LIBERAL families who homeschool.

  8. They haven't.  Homeschooling is alive and well in CA, just like it is in every other state (and several countries).

The situation in CA was a result of a faulty judicial ruling; laws can only be made by the legislature and approved by the governor (or a veto overturned by a 2/3 vote of the legislature).  This was an uninformed *interpretation* of an existing law, not a new law.  Both the governor and the state superintendent have made it clear that they'll see the ruling overturned, and it's been remanded back to the original court.

Edit - I agree, be careful about bringing politics into this.  Homeschooling is done by liberals, conservatives, and everyone in between.  It's not a political choice, it's a personal choice.

  9. CA hasn't outlawed homeschooling. Do some research before going off on a rant. ANd stop bringing politics into this. Homeschooling isn't something strictly for relibious conservatives. A great number of liberals homeschool their children as well, and so does everyone in between. My mom is a democrat, and I am a libertarian, and I'm homeschooled.

  10. it hasn't, you're ill-informed.

we're a California homeschooling family, and we're liberal atheists. so much for stereotypes.

  11. They have not outlawed HS in Cali.

Why would liberals not want strong families? You may not have noticed, but we have families too. We don't enjoy paying taxes anymore than the next fella, so why would we want you to need government programs? Perhaps it is time for someone to step away from the talk radio stations for a while and start thinking logically?

I am a liberal, homeschooling mother. Actually, the homeschool movement began with the very people you have insulted here. Get your facts straight and loose the judgmental attitude.
