Large flat state, high population, lots of thunderstorms and temperature inversions and other such that create mirages, plus lots of military and civilian air travel. So basically you have a situation that is going to generate a lot of possibly very sincere, but mistaken, UFO reports.

Collecting UFO reports and trying to make something out of the data is pointless, because a huge percentage of the data is corrupted with no way of determining which (if any) are actual anomalous sightings.

Warm weather and lots of beaches means people are outdoors more of the time and so more likely to see something. Just a thought.
