  1. How original. Noone I know "clings" to guns and religion. These are in fact both rights under the constitution! Freedom of religion is why America exists! The brits forced us to follow the catholic religion and christians started America so that they could practice christianity without the government insulting and threatening them. We also have the right to defend ourselves under the second amendment. If you had kids and someone broke into your house with a gun i'll bet you'd wish you had one as well. I can't believe what Obama , a self proclaimed "christian" is able to blind our country into believing these days! Even 15 years ago this man would have shot for saying half the things he, his wife and his "pastor have said about Americans". He wouldn't survive much less be a presidential nominee under either party.

  2. Maybe they believe in something and enjoy hunting.

Don't you find it odd that a black man is so quick to stereotype other people?

  3. Interestingly, I am reading a book right now on the istory of fundamentalism. It talks about how modern fundamentalism was spawned by fear and anxiety of modern culture. It examines fundamentalist movements in Israel, Egypt, Iran, and the U.S. and argues that what is similar among them (despite being of different religions and nations) is that they are a reaction to a modern world which the fundamentalist perceives (rightly or wrongly) as out to get them. Of course this is a simplified version of what the book argues.

I know less about guns, but it does seem to be the case that gun ownership goes up as perceptions of safety decline. The more fearful a person is about their personal safety, the more likely they are to buy a gun.

Maybe bitterness plays a role, but fear seems to be the big reason why people cling to guns and religion.

  4. No, just stupid.

  5. Maybe Obama should ask himself why he clings to street jive, when he was raised like a priveledged white boy?

  6. Yes, bitter ,  afraid, angry, alienated and exploited without knowing by who. Just like the guy who murdered people at the Unitarian Church in TN, or the Dem Chairman in Arkansas. The cause of their job losses were the Republicans of course. What a sad thing.

  7. It's been my experience that "those" people actually cling to alcohol and emails that start with the letters "FWD"

They only care about Guns and God during an election year.

A more relevant question would be:

"Why do we give guns to Iran and money to Pakistan?"

  8. Fear.

  9. Bitterness has nothing to do with it. I am free to be religious or not and I am a law abiding citizen so I am free to be armed or not.

  10. Freedom. The freedom to worship as one chooses. The freedom to defend one's self and family. The freedom to believe in something greater than ourselves. The freedom to enjoy the shooting sports. The freedom to trust our fellow citizens. The freedom to understand our government serves us, not us serving the government.

Why is it people distrust their fellow citizens with firearms, yet trust their government (even when they hate it, or do you love GW Bush?) Why would you disparage your fellow citizens who believe in God and principals like "Thou Shalt Not Kill"? Where do your moral values eminate from? Seems to me only the ignorant, distrustful, timid, and fearful would be afraid of the majority of people who own a firearm and worship a higher power.

  11. Because we are going to need them both if bama gets into office.

GOD HELP US WHEN A QURAN LOVING AMERICA HATING TERRORIST LOVING thug gets his hands on the reins.

My guns are ready all his terrorist friends will behere the day after innaguration

  12. Because Gun ownership is our right, and religion is a personal matter that is no one elses business.

  13. I live in PA, and I take personal offense to Obama's comment. I don't own a gun, and I am not clinging to religion. Consequently, I can't answer your question because I don't think it's true.

  14. Yes!!! yes!!! YES!!!   It has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment or defending America from a future socialist president.

It DEFINITELY has nothing to do with faith.... except the kill whitey type faith...that's all good and bitter!!

  15. No it's because of a shortage of brain cells.

  16. I think they have limited themselves by lack of faith & hope in anything changing for the better.

  17. No. Obama got that one wrong.

Clinging to guns and religion IS what makes people bitter, not the other way around.
