  1. It is a good reflection of the generation of the author to perhaps use one gender or the other. As there was more segregation in schools and in society in general.

    If there had been a mix then one gender would invariably come off better then the other, which would kind of overshadow the whole message and main theme of the book.


  2. i thought that when i was reading the book. i thought maybe it could be because it would bring other issues and might detract from the key messages in the book as it is about society in general so gender is irrelevant.

    also i don't think they would have acted so violently etc

  3. That's a good question. Maybe Golding felt that prepubescent boys were more likely to succumb to their inner Id. Or, maybe he felt he could connect better with boys than with girls-he did seem to embody their playfulness well, don't you think?

    Also, the characters were from all boys schools so...ya; but as to why he chose an all boys school the above is my theory.

  4. Its a story about a boy school outing, at least i thought it was... i may be wrong.
