  1. Ireland has always been a rip-off society, and only recently more people have become aware of their rights and are not accepting ridiculous prices as much as in the past.

I feel the Euro only had a small effect on inflation, given the fact that its controlled by the European Central Bank. I personally blame shopkeepers who seem to think that they can take the public are all mugs.

Its cheaper to eat out for a week in Portugal than to buy and cook food from a supermarket for a week in Galway. So I don't think the Euro is to blame competely.

  2. The Euro has nothing to do with the cost of living in Ireland. Ireland is an expensive country to live in, no doubt about that. It was just the same before the introduction of the Euro.

By the way, it's Republic of Ireland, not Irish Republic.

  3. It's not the currency - it's the national attitude.

We're a nation of grabbers and opportunists.

  4. It all started in 1971 with the decimalisation lark!

  5. always has been a rip off

currency has nothing to do with it

if we were still with the punt we'd still be a rip-off country

  6. it"s not just the irish republic.... it"s the euro

  7. the euro hope things will improve

  8. Irish economy is going to crash very soon, and then, I believe, the consequences will be seen.

I don't think it's because of the euro, I think it happened because of the sudden rise in living-standard which the Irish were not accustomed to.

  9. if you ever watched the comittments the Irish are the blacks of Europe and will willingly do anything other than a days work to make ends meet. Ireland was a third world country only 30 years " in my oppinion " todays Irish neavou riche will gladly sell their posterity for the price of the next most popular S.U.V. but their economy is comming toward a crash that even an Irishman in a stupor on a Saturday night can see and when the smoke clears they'll find themselves back in the 70's
