This has been in the news lately and I actually believe that it shouldn't be. The person with the most persuasive answer to reduce the age limit to 18 will get the 10 points. :D

  1. I think if you're old enough to fight for your country, you're old enough to drink responsibly.  Maybe we should re-consider the age to join the military.

  2. No. Drunk driving deaths, and kids making beer runs in the middle of the night and giving alcohol to their 15 and 16 year old friends.....I say NO WAY. Alcohol related deaths would skyrocket.

  3. i don't think it should, 21 is the legal age for a reason. have you seen a drunken 18 year old compared to a 21 year old.. there is a certain part of the brain that doesn't develop fully until mid 20's and it is crucial to self control that is why most older people don't go crazy and cry about everything when they drink

also, to the person that said "if your old enough to risk your life for you country then your old enough to drink" that couldn't be farther from the truth, when your 18 and sober you have enough intelligence to know what your doing when your join the army. you are risking your and only your life for what you believe in and care about, if you were drunk or have been drinking that judgment is clouded and you don't even know what you believe. you are also endangering yours and everyones life that you are around.

lol yup vernon same with me, i rather sacrifice the 10 points and tell the young'ns the truth about drinking

also, younger people only drink to get wasted and show off to their friends, as you mature you realize that you couldn't care less what your friends thought of you so you drink what you can handle and what makes you feel good.(you also realize that people don't think higher of you if you get hammered every time they brake out the mouthwash, in fact they think the exact opposite)

whats up with all the thumbs down? everyone here looks like they're against lowering the age limit... except the person asking the question :\

ok one last comment. The drinking age is only legally 21 if you are mature or responsible enough most peoples parents will let them drink with them (not get slammed, drink) and most immature people get it either way and end up on the street sucking the drops from they're "paperbag". so instead of asking them to lower the drinking age, how about you raise your maturity age? a cop isn't going to arrest a 15 year old for responsibly having a beer with their dad or mom... i know what your gonna say but see thats where i got you, your thinking "but im not a nerd i dont wanna drink with my mom/dad" remember what i said about kids drinking to be cool or show off... point proven ;)

  4. I haven't heard anything on this in the news so I'm not sure what you've heard. But to be honest with you, 80% of alcohol purchases are made my underage teens. Its sad because ive seen so many of my friends throw away there lives or even lose there lives because of drinking. But that has nothing to do with them being underage. They got on the road and tried to drive or got addicted or even drank to much at one time. I honestly dont see the difference in being 18 or 21 when it comes to drinking. Ive seen some 21 year olds that act like there 5 and teens that act like there 30. But each person is different. But to answer your question i'd have to say why not, at 18 your old enough to be held accountable for your actions why not be allowed to drink.

BUT I DO NOT SUPPORT DRINKING AND I ADVISE YOU NOT TO.

  5. If an 18 yr old is mature enough to risk his life to fight for our country, then he should be considered mature enough to have a drink.

  6. I don't think they should.

Since underage drinking is a problem on college campuses, the administration at those schools want to drop the age so there is no such thing as "underage".  POOF!! Problem solved.

If we lower the age to 18, then in a few years people will be saying, "If you're old enough to safely handle a car, you should be able to safely handle alcohol".  It just doesn't work that way.

    To "SOMEBODY":

I agree that if a person is old enough to fight for their country, they should be able to drink a beer.  However, you can't lump 18 yr old service members & 18 yr old kids in the same category.

The 18 yr old service member has applied for, been screened, tested & accepted into the military.  They are trained & held to a higher standard of conduct, responsibility,  performance & maturity than a non military person (of any age).  They are trained to make decisions & understand the consequences.

The average 18 yr old on the street probably hasn't been responsible for anything other than cleaning his/her room & more than likely, hasn't been held accountable for anything.

  7. there are those that would say if a person is old enough to fight for the country they are old enough to drink

I say only if you are actually IN the military should you allowed to drink under 21

  8. To drink or not to drink that is the dilemma. If children were to ease into the use of alcohol , first as a dinner wine(diluted of course) then as a teen the harder after dinner relaxer, then liquor would not have the same romantic fun appeal.Too often teens even 18 year old's cannot handle the use responsibly and won't stop until they get wasted. That is because it is too new to them and they have to show off.I see adults at my club do the same thing, but at least after 21 years a person should have a sense of maturity about themselves. No points for me.
