well where can i  start... the whole place is incredible (there are winged lion statues). The whole vibe is just fantastic and there is so much to see and do. Due to tourism it has developed many 'touristy' areas, so try to avoid these. No need to know Italian coz every one knows english(practically). If you can spare the money I would go out of your way to ride on a water taxi, a fantastic thrilling experience. Gondolas are fantastic, if you are into romance go at night through the wonderfully lit canals. The markets are fantastic, though do your research before you go to find times etc. It would be fantastic if you went, I loved it so much the first time I went back the very next year. Have a wonderful time.(sorry about all the fantastics but it is the best word to describe Venice).

The majesty of St Mark's Bassillica is sublime. St Mark's Square is a great place to people watch while having a nice Venetian coffee, the romance of the gondolo rides and the history of this beautiful city make it a treasure for me.

How many other places in the world look almost exactly the way they did hundreds of years ago?  And not just a few reconstructed blocks, but an entire city?  And to still have canals as streets, and no cars in the city?  And buildings and plazas that are among the most beautiful found anywhere?
