  1. If it weren't for the United Nations, there would be no place for the world governments to communicate, with the rest of the world governments in attendance. In other words without the UN, you would have nothing.. Even though the UN is judged to be very ineffective, it's better than nothing.

  2. United Nations is needed to alleviate the poor from poverty through its agencies and improve the culture of each member country by preserving its traditions that are not contrary to law.

  3. you miss the point! the united nations was formed to usurp the sovereignty of the most powerful nation in the world.

  4. Read about the United Nations here.

  5. The UN is the greatest source of international mediation in the world.  It has helped to resolve numerous conflicts around the world.  Although it is not always successful, we typically judge politics in what goes wrong, not what goes right.  The UN provides more humanitarian relief than any other organization in the world, helping through the UNDP, UNICEF, and UNAIDS.  It has been a crucial forum for member states to come together to tackle a multitude of difficult issues spanning a broad range of topics.  Where else could you find a solution for poverty, disease, trade, war, ethnic issues, water rights, border disputes, technology, terrorism, humanitarian relief, all under one roof.  Granted, they may not be perfect at all of these things, but we should not hold them to that.  Look at the positive.

  6. the only reason for the UN is to support the US in bullying other nations. If they don't support the US they have no power of influence. They already do not exist.

  7. Like other people, i said that the U.N is the most world relief organization. It is still in place because the reason it was made is for all the country to united together, so that they could avoid war. The U.N also talk about anti-terrorist. So mainly, it is there to maintain world's peace and help those country who is in poverty.

  8. We need an unbiased watchdog for the whole WORLD, including the U.S. Even though I don't believe that the U.N. isn't biased these days, they ultimately hold a great responsibility to try and hold peace on this planet when it feels sh*t's about to go down.

It'll be sad the day we lose the U.N. (hopefully it'll never happen).

  9. The UN where created in the 40's almost 70 years ago...

It looks like something coming out form either Bogart (Casablanca) or the Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Let's say a little "outdated" for the 21st century

  10. Why do you ask for "positive responses" when you only want to hear that we still need the United Nations?  Maybe it is needed for some humanitarian purposes, but even there it does not do a very good job.  Politically it is worse than useless and the most un-democratic organization ever devised, with five countries having veto power over any important resolution.  The United Nations as it stand now is a useless, corrupt and impotent organization and should be scrapped immediately as a failed experiment.

  11. The United Nations is a place to discuss world policies and the resolutions of disagreements between countries.

  12. Sorry, but I have no positive response.

If this is a question that has been asked by your teacher, I think he/she is trying to get you to research the UN and tell him/her why you believe we need the UN. Your teacher has the Teacher's Edition of your textbook, and the answers according to those who wrote your textbook. If your teacher is only seeking positive responses, he/she is not a very good teacher.

  13. We don't.  They are about as effective as our Congress.

  14. We need a forum where countries can present their grievances, but not have to go to war

  15. what a joke, iran could carry a atomic bomb into the assembly ,and they still wouldnt get it.............

  16. I think that the leaders need to get together and rethink about the UN organization. We need a cpmmon panel but frankly UN and all its bodies including WHO, UNICEF, World Bank etc are full of corruption, pursuing non-sync strategies and have lost their meaning or purpose beyond being the pawns of US

  17. really man, i dont think we critically need the UN.  but UNICEF does some good charity work

  18. The UN has many agencies that bring help to the worlds poor.  http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid...  Get rid of the UN and those least able to help themselves through no fault of their own will suffer.  It does offer a forum as well where all nations can discuss issues, as opposed to world meetings where only a few nations get to decide on a common policy.

And yes, in some cases, it can mediate on various disputes.

  19. So a bunch of old geezers can get together and brown nose eachother.

I'm not sure they do very much but I'm sure they must be some help.
