  1. Trust has been extensively studied, and fundamentally, our brain is hardwired to trust or not to trust to some degree.  Some facial features, such as large eyes, are considered by most as more trustworthy.  Of course, these are tempered by experience and information.  For example, if one person told you that one individual is not trustworthy, then it is very difficult for you to shake that association, even if the actions of this individual are exactly opposite.

  2. It may not be clear, but they are actually quite contradictory.  Still, the decision as to which one to trust is arbitrary, based almost exclusively on whim rather than on reason or logic. A safer bet would simply to trust neither, but then the problem becomes, how do I satisfy my trusting nature.

  3. Instinct versus doubt.

  4. Experience.

Give me five minutes eye to eye with someone and I can tell you

    whom I am dealing with.

I often wish I could not see so well.

  5. Experience and (sometimes) insight.

  6. One what?
