  1. Gas Boycotts do not work. All it does is make people wait a day before filling up, meaning that they still buy gas, just a day later.

Your uncle is in no danger unless all of america collectively decides not to drive cars anymore.

  2. Boycotting is stupid. Just buy a smaller car. My petrol only costs $10 a week and that's at prices equivalent to $5.50 per gallon. Besides, what are you going to do, walk everywhere? Pfft.

  3. No, then tell your uncle to join us and boycott with us...

A one or two day boycott will not do anything, if we boycott one oil company for 1 month, it will work because they will have to lower there prices to make room for the inventory coming in, Lets say company A is selling gas and company B is not, then company B will lower there price to beat company A price, then there are price wars between company A and B... Lets just say we try for June 1st for the boycott

  4. That is exactly the problem. There is the pipeline effect where short term dips in gasoline/oil consumption is absorbed long before the oil companies feel a pinch. There is little money to be made for refining to pumping fuel into your gasoline tank. These are the places that get hurt the most.

The money is made on Wall Street, at the oil companies, and the producers of the oil. They won't feel the pinch. They simply grab their fat checks. It doesn't even matter to them if people who still drove needed fuel later on or bought it from another company. The same fuel is getting to your tank regardless of which company it came from. After all, the same pipelines are used. In fact the prices shoot up quickly yet drift down slowly to absorb as much of any blow given over time.

Gasoline fads simply do not hurt the people who make the money.

There is a method that will work. If everyone reduces the fuel that they consume by 10 % over a period of months, the prices will fall.

Carpool, with those traveling the same route as you. Reduced a single trip out of your schdule. Drive less aggressively. Let off the fuel peddle sooner when approaching a red light. Plan your trips carefully to reduce the number or times your car needs to warm up. Go through your trunk and car to remove any unnecessary weight. Check the pressure of your tires and otherwise ensure that your not needlessly wasting fuel due to minor things such as those. There are many other things to help with reducing fuel use. The most important thing for keeping gasoline prices down is not to buy an excess amount of fuel when the price does go down. This will cause fuel prices to shoot right back up. A price of $2.00 per gallon isn't out of the question over a long enough period of reduced consumption. The problem is that it won't happen. People on average will not reduce their fuel consumption enough to allow the price to drop. The trend will continue.

  5. cause it helps people who pay for gas
