I'm really curious.

Why not watch anime with regular relationships?

do people watch for the "forbidden-love" genre?

  1. Yaoi: I don't watch it because I'm not female or g*y.

Yuri: Two hawt girls going at it is more fun to watch than a man and a woman because you don't need to see another guy's p***s or a guy at all.

  2. I watch both, because straight relationships bore me... They are so conventional and predictable; that and, the girl is usually naive and unproportional [that's anime...] In yaoi and yuri, sexism isn't common like in normal anime. I'm asexual, if that helps.

  3. It's somewhat hard to explain, but I like Yaoi and Yuri for all the drama and conflict. There are great relationships that develop, the relationships are complex, and the story is usually pretty deep and involved. There is also the development of the characters and how they react to their own sexuality and the sexuality of others, and hoe they treat others who are straight, bi or curious. It's also fun, and funny at times

  4. This is one of those "nearly unanswerable" questions. I'll do my best, though.

Yuri: More commonly know as GL (Girl's Love) or Shoujo-ai. I'm not the biggest fan, so I don't likie hardcore Yuri. However, I think, when expressed professionally, it can be really sweet.

Yaoi: Oh boy, where to begin? Okay, imagine an ice cream cone. After eating it, you regret finishing the sweet treat. 'Why can't I have two?' You think. That's Yaoi. Two hot guys are better than one. At least, that's what it is when you get the basics.

Forbidden love isn't specific to Yaoi or Yuri. Romeo and Juliet had a forbidden love, didn't they?

What girl wants to watch some girl get a hot guy? What guy wants to watch a hot girl get a boyfriend? This is why Yaoi and Yuri fans don't watch straight relationships as much. You get jealous of the girl or guy that you're reading/watching about. So, take the girl or guy out of the picture. Then replace said girl or guy with another hot girl or guy. Presto, you have another reason. Mainly, we don't always want to watch some girl/guy we don't care about get a hot girl/guy. No one to be jealous of, see?

It's also addictive. It's kind of like cigarettes or, for a better, less life threatening example, like coffee. Got one, liked it, gotta have another. And it continues. You like something, you want to pursue that  something.

It's different. Like hot pink shoelaces, it's something that not everyone enjoys nor likes. You liking it makes you different, special, and, in some ways, you feel 'above' others for that.

And, well, it's love. Seeing someone fall in love, get that person, it entrances us. That's why the Romance genre is so popular. We like seeing others happy.

    The end.
