Why do young people...?

Okay, maybe I should say "Why do people my age think that a person who is 49 is really, really old?"

I'm a young teenager (14 to be exact) and started listening to Michael Jackson's music when I first heard about him (which was through TV documentaries played during his child molestation trials.)

Anyways, I can say today that I am a proud fan of Michael, and completely support him. Of course, that is my opinion, and I respect other people's opinions on him.

Anyways, when I tell other people when they ask me who my favorite artist is, and when I say "Michael Jackson", they all say "Wow. He's mad old, isn't he?" and I reply "He's only 49." and people my age reply "Thats REALLY OLD. I thought he was like 30. Thats already too old."

I stare blankly at them.

How can they seriously think that 49 is old? Especially teens my age?

Wouldn't that be calling half their parents really old? I mean, come on.

The thing is that its all comparetive. It depends on your point of view. 49 - 14 = 35. Which is roughly 2 and half times your age in the difference. where as 30 is only 16 which is near how long you've been alive. But in general 49 is not OOOOLLLLDDDD cause people's average life expectancies go up every day.

The reason teens think its soo old is because you start to slow down and not be as active as the use to be. where as teens are getting more and more energy every day.

He's not old. They act like he's 85! And besides, he does look like he's 30. And 30 definitely isn't old! Geez, what's going on with people our age?

WoW! same thing happened to me. I usually don't tell people im a fan, but when i do, they go "wow he was great back then, but he is kinda freakish now. How old is he? 30? 35?". you know the rest. I think kids just say "Wow. He's mad old," because they didn't expect to here that he was almost 50 years old,since he looks a lot younger than he really is. Also todays world concentrates on younger so called artists such as the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montanah, Avril Lavinge, and Rhianna. If people arent really into music that is all they see, they look at the age, and looks.

the same thing happens with music. I tell my friends

"I like the song by queen  Bicycle"

"wow isn't that old?"

"um.. not really. what diffrence does it make it dosn't stop the music form being good"

Our world is confusing and everybody has diffrent opinions about when someone is officially old.

I believe that someone is officially old after the ag 60, that means im calling my dad old.

I think because in this day and age, everything focuses on young people.

Because as teenagers we think we have had long lifes already lol I know but most think that then someone who is more than twice they age they think omg they are old. But time goes faster the older you are and theyll be there quicker than they think. But I think old if 60 and beyond and im 17

Young people think 25 is old.  So imagine 49!

But anyways Madonna is turning 50 this weekend.  I'm sure they don't find her "old".

i don't think he's that old. i love him and i think 49 is the perfect age for him. (and 50, since it's almost his birthday.) and you should be happy that that is all people are saying about him. i would rather hear about his age a thousand times than hear any more of that molester garbage.

i think its because Michael seems so much younger than he actually is!

I became a fan about a year ago and when i learned he was turning 50 this year, i freaked out b/c he seemed so much younger. idk plus 50 is like the new 30 these days   lol
