there are very few if any vehicals being manufactured today with the old carburator system, their more troublesome and less fuel efficient, plus i think nascar is the only motorsport still using them!!!

  1. I love my carburetor, it can be adjusted for best performance and efficiency. The new cars with FI are pre set and can't be easily changed by the owners. Otherwise car companies would be selling those 100 MPG cars we always hear about. Ban fuel injection! Long live the carburetor!

  2. Sorry Stonewall... I'll have to agree with some others here. I never heard that they were a problem.

  3. Troublesome??? I can't think of a driver who has said "my carburator isn't working"  can you?

  4. 1st of all. you dont know anything about carburators if you think that they are troublesome. 2nd fuel injection would be to hard for NASCAR to regulate, since they have to control every little part on the all to identical COT.

  5. Because they are scared to death of how much crew chiefs would be playing games with their rules if they allow computers into the equation.

Nascar is not about going faster anymore, it's about everyone going the same speed and driver safety.(Restrictor Plates)  I've got nothing against driver safety and certainly don't want to see anyone get hurt, but it is racing for god's sake, it's supposed to be dangerous or else we'd all do it.

  6. because you can't put a restictor plate on fuel injection. the size of the restrictor plate determines how much fuel is getting to the carb and adjusts the maxiumum speed of the car.

  7. They should use fuel injection but they said it is to hard to inspect and make sure everyone is using the same equipment.

  8. Seems like some really good answers already, just want to throw in also, they are easy to work on and switch out if needed.

  9. Perhaps Nascar stays unique because it is.  They don't ditch what works for them.

Would you have Nascar switch over to hybrid?

Like Popeye...They am what they am and that all that they am.

Nascars doing OK, so let's leave them alone and follow them everywhere they go!!!

  10. I'm glad they don't. I agree with the other answers that NASCAR is about the drivers beating other drivers with skill. It shouldn't be up to some engineer and his tricky computer wizardry. NASCAR has always and will always be about the drivers skill and not necessarily the equipment.

  11. NASCAR doesn't seem to have a problem with them.

The reason they stick with old technology is to avoid computers in the car.  If you have fuel injection you have some type of computer running it which means you could use that computer for things like traction control (F1 and CART both had problems controlling that).  Racing should be about the driver skill not some engineers skill.  It also adds cost to the car.

F1 has been a great example of engineering overkill.  You could take the best drivers and switch them with the worse drivers and the race results wouldn't change.  Its all about the car.

  12. what trouble?

  13. Be glad they havent my fuel injectors are always gumming up :^(
