  1. because they suck...

i'm not too sure, but i think the same situation might happen at other footy grounds

  2. Romper, they do have drinking stands, so you can drink as much as you want there, but yeah once u get back to ur seats, its not allowed. apparently the word has gotten out that it has become a big success, so don't be surprised if other grounds start using the same idea.

that means when i go to melbourne, i can watch a collingwood game without fearing for my life

  3. It's probably a necessary response to loutish behaviour that's crept into society, flowing over to bad behaviour that will keep followers of the game away. Most people go to the footy to watch a contest ON THE FIELD, not to have to put up with filthy language and fisticuffs, and general mayhem OFF THE FIELD. These offenders have no respect for those who want to watch the game in peace. One day cricket is another place where yobbos like to go and perform for the TV cameras, put on their own show rather than allow others to watch the performance on the field. Heavy police presence and only light beer served has helped, but people can still get a skinful at the pub before going to the game.

Those addicted to alcohol, and those that are anti-social, can't restrain themselves. Sporting matches are not Mardi Gras. Alcohol should be banned at all events open to the general public, and bans should be enforced, particularly where children are among the crowds.

  4. That's strange, I think that supporters should be allowed to drink whatever they want, as long as they are responsible. I suppose more and more places are banning alcohol these days, and maybe they have done this because the footy is a 'family activity'. Who knows!

  5. Is that fair dinkum,  are they allowed to drink in the bars at least, do they even have bars at the ground?

If that's the case, how boring a day/night at the footy would be, crikey the world is going to the pack, i can remember we used to jump the fence at VFL park with esky's, even at a final once, 70,000 carlton and Collingwood, no one said boo to us,   now  you cant take beer in and SA doesn't allow drink in the stands,  i could understand when both SA clubs played each other, but there would be no need when one of the SA teams play other teams, the crowd is mainly South Aussies,  buggered if i know what h**l they don't allow it for.

  6. You can drink in the bars AND you can drink in your seats in the Northern Grandstand.

  7. Because they dont know what 'fun' is

  8. Pleeeease let them bring in a ban at the G. Especially in the Southern stand. Get rid of those Richmond ferals in the standing area of M2.

At least Hawthorn have arranged for dry areas for their home games, they are the only one's to support families at the footy.

  9. because adelaide and particularly port adelaide fans are feral and if they get on the grog a rabies outbreak might occur

  10. For safety reasons. Or that's how they'll justify it anyway.

I was at a cricket match not long ago and the guys in front of us had to get rid of their small esky coz they reckon it could be used as a weapon. An ESKY for Christs sake!

By trying to make things safe, they're making things boring. The funny thing is, they don't really care about your safety at all. It's all about reducing insurance premiums.

Either that or South Australians can't hold their liquor!

  11. As far as i understand...you can drink in footy park but only in certain sections..And they were also saying that they intend to extend the area's which the patron's can drink..i think there more worried about people jumping up when someone score's..and the person next to them getting covered with beer rather than any fighting or trouble that a few idiot's might cause!! But to be honest i thought the idea going to the footy was to go WATCH the footy not see how many beers you can drink in a quarter!!

  12. dunno but more and more stadiums in Oz are banning beer in certain parts, sux

  13. Because the fans down there are just twits that can't control their liquor so take it away and AAMI may be a good place to go with a good atmosphere

  14. Because it's a sports ground.

There are plenty of other places to drink - bars, at other parts of the ground, for instance - & areas near these bars.

They ban drinking in the stands because not everyone is a beer-swilling bogan. They go to watch the game & don't wish to put up with being inconvenienced by drunks swearing & being disorderly. Good on 'em. I'm glad other sporting venues are following suit.

  15. If you cannot go without a beer during a football match,[ lots of supporters have their quota before they go to a game] stay home and watch it on the tele

  16. they have allocated i think 3 grandstands where you can now drink. They are going to let more grandstands drink beer but that is a way far off. And i live in adelaide and yes it gets feral but every state gets that type of people

  17. Because you drunks spit when ya yell...that's why they ban the booze in the stands.

Just as long as they don't ban me from eating pies & hot dogs there, I don't care.

  18. **As someone who has never been to AAMI stadium I had never heard that and while I find it surprising and a bit sad for those fans who can't have a beer and a meat pie while watching the footy (something I think is a bit of a tradition) I guess I shouldn't be too surprised because their supporters seem to have a bit of a reputation for going a bit feral over there.  I don't know if that's the reason for not allowing fans to drink beer in the stands but it would explain a few things.

Apparently back at Waverley Park in the AFL members area people weren't allowed to drink beer either.**

  19. It's not a grog ban it's moonshine!! the hillbillies loose the plot when they get on  the turps, when they get drunk they forget where they live and end up staying at the ground for a week or at least until the next Port game, and that would drive any feral back to the woods!!

  20. Becoz its Adelaide.
