Why does Al Gore believe that he is making a serious contribution to the global warming debate?

Like he is the first person who ever suggested that global warming may be responsible for catastraphes such as cyclones and hurricanes.

Is he just raising awareness in the capacity of an ex vice president? Or does he actually have practical solutions we don't already know?

  1. Gore has been effective at raising the issue, though his scientific contributions are questionable, to say the least.  He may or may not believe in what he is doing, but he is getting a tidy sum in lecture fees and honoraria.  This, of course, leaves him open to charges that he has a financial interest in flogging the issue.

"The honoraria paid to all of the speakers appearing at this conference [The 2008 International Conference on Climate Change, March 2-4, 2008, New York City] add up to less than the honorarium Al Gore gets paid for making a single speech, and less than what his company makes selling fake carbon 'off-sets' in a week."

    ...

"We invited Al Gore to speak to us tonight, and even agreed to pay his $200,000 honorarium. He refused."

Joseph L. Bast, conference host, opening remarks

  2. He wants to look as handsome as me.

  3. I don't think he thinks he's making a SERIOUS contribution to the discussion.  He's raising awareness.  Wouldn't be how I'd do it, but me telling Al Gore what to do is a pretty silly concept.

  4. who would listen to four eyed scientist? but people pay attention to former VPs . (agree or disagree, but people have an opinion on this topic)

practical solution? it has been known for a long time , there is not will to implement it.

  5. Wow, there is a global warming section on Yahoo Answers.

Al Gore put the algor in algorithm... I mean, he invented the freakin internet. I'm sure he can solve the global warming problem.

  6. Hey, I think Al is sincere.

Good for him and for the world if he is influential, in a positive way to!

Critics have always been harsh on him, I do not think he is taking advantage of the situation in a morbid manner, since he has been on the "global warming awareness issue" for years now.

He may not be an engineer to find the practical solutions, but he may help promote such solutions.

After all did he not help promote and support internet developement a good deal?

Edit: LOL,  Ok,  so he is not to good looking on that picture, so what!?

  7. because he is listening to science not oil companies.

  8. I was just thinking about this before I saw the question.  I really believe that the reason Al has taken up the issues of global warming to fulfill an emptiness in him since he lost the election to Bush.  Once Al had lost, he was left was no endeavors and no other mission in life.  Before the presadential election, all he could think about was gaining the White House.  Now that he has lost, he has to focus his attention somewhere else.

So whether it was a conference, a friend, or a family member speaking about the issues of global warming to Al, it sparked something in Al to want to take on the issue and use his fame and notoriety to influence the world.  It just as well could have been anything else (i.e. save the dolphins, the trees, etc.), but the global warming fell into his lap after the loss in the elections.

Has Al taken a right step...in some ways yes and in other ways no.  I think there are a lot more greater and pressing issues at hand than global warming.  Can Al make a difference in global warming...a small difference.  He cannot change the way other countries are dealing with the issue.  Its a small (and in my opinion), a loosing battle.

But never the less, Al has staked a claim (put his foot down) in global warming and its there that he probably will remain.  One doesn't just change direction, when one is best known for a certain issue.  Al has established his roots in the issue and his made it known to the world about his stance.

But like I said, there are a lot more pressing issue that could use Al's attention, which would do more good in this world.

  9. That bloated High Priest  of global warming makes me sick

  10. I think he's showing that you don't have to be 75 pounds overweight and wear a red baseball cap to make a political-advocacy documentary film with big box-office draw.

You just have to be 75 pounds overweight.

  11. In fairness to all concerned, arent you a little bit hard on the guy? i think you should suggest something more better than the ones being advocated by Mr. Gore...if you cant, i suggest you hold your peace and focus on something more worthwhile than criticizing...at least he's doing something for everyone unlike some people who does nothing but criticize and find fault...no offense, but i think if you cant be part of some good cause, be humane enough to shut up...
