Why does Al Gore want us to buy carbon coupons from the company that he owns?

Does he want to save the planet with our helping him by sending money to his carbon coupon company that he founded and owns the majority of stock. Am I just not getting what a great man Al Gore is. What wrong with me not to get what all of you caring informed planet loving people seem to wake-up knowing, but small minds like mind simply can't grasp. Help me to understand.
