If he is representing the 'great British Landlord' why is he drinking lager?

Lager is not a British beer!

you are right in saying that it is not a British drink, in actual fact, its a German one, however, it's just part of his act, he even drank on stage when we saw him.

Also, I'm not sure if you noticed this, but in the TV show of "Time Gentlemen Please", he sometimes drinks wine and speaks French if there is nobody around.

No, what he drinks is German, and what he drinks from (glass) is from France... but put the two together and you get a great British invention called the pint :P
