Why does America grow so much corn?

It seems that corn gets an inordinate amount of attention in America, unlike other food crops like wheat, barley, soybeans, etc. Is it true that we grow much more corn than other crops, and if so, why?

  1. We drink a lot of soda pop and eat a lot of cereal.


  2. Its probably easier to grow corn in America than other crops... but I'm only guessing. Or maybe there's a big demand on corn. Hmmmm... I don't know

  3. Corn is the source of all food.

  4. Corn is used to make a great many products such as corn oil, pop corn, corn syrup, corn starch, snack chips and alcohol.  It is easy to grow and harvest.

  5. Corn is used in a lot of foods we eat like cereal, soda pop, candy.  Corn meal, corn flour, corn starch, corn syrup, etc.  the list goes on.  

    Its fed to cows and other animals before slaughter.  It used to make ethanol that is put in Gasoline.   We use a lot of corn for everything not just corn on the cob.

  6. Add to the above, because they can, and not only that, they make a lot of money doing it as well.
