There's going to be an American remake??? NOOOOOO!!!! Don't f*** with a classic unless you can do better!

Part of that film's charm is that it's Japanese! Plus, as you've rightly noted, the best films in that vein are made by the Japanese or by the Koreans... not Hollywood!
