Why does America keep winning so many medals?

I'm starting to get the impression that some of the other countries don't want it as badly with the way their teams are melting down and stuff. i think the broadcasters want us to believe that it's because america is the best country in the world, but i don't believe that either.

  1. It is just because of the number of their delegates.

Quantity over quality. The more the delegates, the higher the chance to win a medal

    ^^

  2. America is a large country by population and has good training programs for all athletes.

  3. Actually, china is ahead of us. http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/IN...

  4. America is a huge country. There are more chances to get the better athletes. The same goes with China.

  5. America is a rich nation, and unlike many of the athletes from other countries, many American athletes can afford training.

  6. Well america IS the best country in the world - why do you think everyone tries to come into this country?

And we win so many medals because our athletes play hard -

  7. Because they have athletes in every freakin event!!!!!!!!

  8. I know it is supposed to be an amateur sport, but I have noticed in the past that it is the country with the strongest political ambitions that seem to win the most medals.  Look at how successful East Germany was in the past.  I would think that the USA is disappointed that it doesn't have as many or more medals than China.  I applaud all of the athletes, whatever their country, but I don't watch the Olympics any more because it is too political and I cringe when I hear the national anthems playing.  The country doesn't win (especially the couch potatoes like me) the athlete wins.

  9. i should really look up and see if we have a larger population then everyone else.russia has alot of peeps dont they?we just train hard and like to succeed.see that runner dive across the line?thats how bad he wanted to win.david neville

  10. Schmitty

Did you see the Jamaica track team? they all trained in the U.S.

    You are wrong

For years USA coaches were coming to Jamaica's Girls and Boys Champs and also the Penn Relays to recruit Jamaican athletes for US colleges. Then the same Americans were complaining when we started beating them, saying that its because they taught us how to run. Now our present athletes have decided to stay home and train at one of our 2 main track clubs...MVP Track and High Performance Track clubs...and attend college in Jamaica. They have Jamaican coaches. Fraser and Simpson are from MVP and train with Stephen Francis, so is Asafa Powell, Michael Frater, Bridgett Foster- Hylton. Usain Bolt is trained by a Jamaican Coach at High Performance Track Club. Kerron Stewart, though she attends college in the USA is trained by a Bahamian.

  11. It must be because we train so many people.

Did you see the Jamaica track team? they all trained in the U.S.

We have a lot of competitors and we are the 2 biggest country.  Just look at China though, they are in 2nd for medals!

  12. Because it has a large population and America is a country that can provide athletes with good training

  13. Large population and large pots of money. Who are these other teams that are 'melting down'?

  14. It is because america is very big and america is the dream land.
