No one mentioned about thousands of South Ossetia victims and refugees... There is a huge discrepancy in coverage between Russian and western media coverage.

No one even mentioned that Russia declared a day of mourning because of these events. Also there is no mentioning WHY Russian went into Georgia.

It's also very evident that Georgia's president plays a "poor guy" role and trying to win western support. (he even talks in English during his speeches instead of his native language)

I think that Russia definitely overreacted to the initial Georgian attack on South Ossetia towns but watching US media that looks at things from one side makes me really upset!

Also remarks made by presidential candidates made me laugh a lot!

  1. Yeah all the media is, is a ratings w***e and a propaganda machine. I say this as someone who watches the news for pure enjoyment purposes. fox has a right slant, msnbc has a left. And cnn tries to be somewhere in the middle. But they all say the same B.S. in different ways. Its sad but its true. You can never go on one persons or one entities view to make up your own mind.

Atleast, more Americans are starting to realize this...its the silver lining I guess

  2. That's why I never rely on American media on learning about crisis such as this. I get a clearer picture of the real situation from European and Asian sources because they portray a more objective and independent observation without biases. In this regard, Europeans and Asians are more well-informed of the real facts. Unfortunately for Americans, they only got what their media feeds them. This is despite of their so-called free American press.

  3. It's because Georgia is considered an ally,

I understand how American media puts a spin to things since I, am an American, and it's only the ignorant who don't try to educate themselves to understand what's truly going on.

  4. old cold war tensions rising and georgia is a US ally

  5. Because Russia is big enough to whoop our ***, and the media (government controlled) tries to make Russia look bad.

  6. Supposedly we are allied to both sides, actually, so many of these other answers are off base. Last I heard George Bush (remember him, he was president before Obama-fear?)  declared Putin a soul mate... but still since it is a break away from the old USSR, we have to also count Georgia as ally.

But there is the fact that the American public is essentially clueless, and the news has to paint wars as black hats against white hats so as not to confuse the poor dears.

  7. Well, first off, you are complaining about American media when the truth is the very outlets you speak of are "global corporations" and European outlets such as the British government's BBC, Australia's ABC, and France's AFP. All of which are fervent Anti American Socialist propaganda clearing houses.

Russian media is nothing more than pro communist propaganda my favorite of course being Pravda. What a hoot.

The simple facts are. Russia invaded a tiny nation under the guise of peace keeping. The satellites watched the build up and the new agencies saw the primitive Russian forces open up a two front massacre and strangulation of a democratically established government. Russia is caught red handed setting up the situation and the world will not forget it. Not ever, just like they will never forget Stalin or Hitler, Putin has marked Russia in the same manner as the Soviet Union. May Russia burn.

  8. Firstly, the media is almost always biased towards one particular side of a story. Whether it appeals to the masses or just makes them money, it really doesn't matter.

However, having said that, Americans have (myself included) a very different outlook on how things are. Because we have always had a democracy we don't know anything else. It is difficult to see eye to eye with Russia, because of past and present circumstances that are very different from the way we live. Russia is wrong with how they are acting. That's my opinion. But that's all that is. I do not (like some media outlets) try to present my opinions as facts.

Just remember that not everything you read is true, and form your own opinions based on what you believe. You will be a lot better off! :)
