Why does Ash change his friends after every season?

In the Pokémon television series, why do Ash after every season change his friends? why couldn't just Brook and Misty be on every season?

Maybe it's because they want to spice it up a bit. Pokemon is watched mostly by children who (let's face it) have short attention spans. By switching characters and introducing new Pokemon, they can give the show dimension without completely changing it. Though I agree: Brook and Misty were THE BEST.

He doesn't change his friends, they change him.

There's only so much you can take of him winning by chance every time.

I think Brock and Misty left because otherwise they'd end up strangling Pikachu.
