  1. I believe capitalism works in the west because we have had to fight for it and shed blood. Freedom of speech, the right to vote and select governments is precious, many people have died for these rights and are still dying. It pays to study history. Communism and dictatorships or absolute rule have failed recent history supports this eg the Russian Csars, Adolf Hitler , English Monarchy, Mussoline (forgive my spelling) etc...The real threat to our way of life is apathy. In New Zealand we have a mix of Capitalism and Socialism, we support a free market and the ability to do well but the less fortunate among us are reasonably well looked after. In conclusion the west is successful because we have a system that is less than perfect but we also value human rights.

  2. For capitalism to function well the land must have personal and economic freedom. In places where capitalism fails it's not the fault of capitalism. Arguably it's the reason why capitalism appears to be failing in the West as well. As the West becomes increasingly authoritarian, we find government regulation and involvement increasing and it places a stranglehold on a truly free market. Pure capitalism is a pure free market. The less free the market, the less effective is capitalism.
