Question:

Why does Cuba have more advanced hurricane protection for its citizens than the USA?

The tiny impoverished Nation of Cuba has a well worked out system of hurrricane risk control for it's citizens which includes prior arrangements for temporary relocation of all those potentially at risk, including pets and personal belongings.

Why is it that the richest Nation on Earth cannot, or does not, provide similar protection for it's citizens?

  1. You should move to Cuba.  We would all appreciate it.

  2. their are a few High End Gated Communities that are in harms way down there in Florida that know that their chances are that they will get damage from a bad storm or hurricane, but they get assistance from the Government with no questions asked everytime it happens~!

  3. Relative size would be a contributory factor, both in terms of population and area.  Usually in totalitarian regimes the people are "educated" to do certain things "on command" so this would also be a factor.

usleyag - bit of pot calling kettle black here isn`t there, nice rant in your third paragraph, have you forgotten all the US dollars flowing into the coffers of that bright shining light of an organisation called I Ran Away that resulted in over 3000 dead.  That didn`t dry up until 9/11 when another 3000 died - pop at us all you want but be prepared to get it back in spades.

  4. The tiny impoverished nation of Cuba has plans for EVERY aspect of their citizens lives.

The U.S. gives citizens the warnings they need to leave the area.  Should the financial burden for relocating people living in known disaster areas fall onto the entire taxpaying population as a whole?  I suggest not.  Government should play a very minimal role in our lives.  It is bad enough that taxpayers are already stuck paying for rebuilding costs for citizens who choose to live in known disaster areas.

New Orleans is a great example:  people living in a city which is on the coast, built on swampland and is already known to have a VERY high probability of being a disaster area.  So when there finally is a disaster, all taxpayers should help rebuild their city?  That doesn't make sense.  How do we hold people accountable for their decisions and make sure better decisions are made in future generations?

  5. We value freedom. That includes the freedom for foolish people to choose to remain in harm's way.

  6. because america like the uk is a free country and the government doesn't have total control over every aspect of your life, so get back on your donkey and get ready to bend over and take it from your leader.

while us and the americans try to sort out this world one by one.

know one can beat the angloshpere because we are totaly

free and freedom is the most precious thing on earth,

some absolute simpleton thinks that there is loads of anti americanism in the UK no there isn't we dont like your government at the minute but i dont know anyone who hates the american people, they are our closest allies, we would be speaking german if it wasn't for them, we created america they are our son and we are there old shriveled mother (figuratively speaking)

    ATTENTION AMERICANS

To all americans there are A**hole liberals in every country dont listen to them when they are from the UK because the vast majority of us in this country are on your side in good times and in bad

    COMMUNIST WILL ALWAYS FAIL

  7. The relationship between the individual and the Government is much stronger in Cuba than the US.

So the life of the average citizen is more valuable, and to be protected, in Cuba.

The US government demonstrated that fact in New Orleans,

or maybe I've got it wrong?

  8. What do you get out of this hatemongering, question after question?  I'm really curious.  You even pick out questions from Americans so you can say something crude about their "USA education".   Why do you enjoy it?  Do you think you're improving the world somehow by doing this?  Where does your extreme hatred of the USA come from?  Give me the word in your additional comments and I'll open my email for you.  I'm really curious.  I know there's anti-Americanism rampant in the UK.  I lived there.  But I'm curious why your hatred is so extreme.

***Well, thanks for that angry rant.  It's obvious you do hate Americans, spending hour after hour chiding them on Yahoo.  Just because people have a different view of things doesn't mean they are embracing evil or empowering the New World Order or whatever over-the-top nonsense you're on about.

Get a grip, you pathetic Brit.  You just enjoy harassing Americans like the majority of your fellow British.  It's a knee jerk reaction with the Brits.  Do you wonder why the UK has so many radicals and exports so many terrorists?  Because your population is radicalized and its part of the assimilation.  There are many countries in Europe who have absorbed much higher percentages of immigrants.  And if it wasn't for the UK's prestigious standing in history, it would be talked about much more than it is and you would be considered a dangerous group of countries considering the amount of terrorists that continue to come out of the UK.

  9. they are to paranoid about terrorism to be bothered with little things like hurricanes.

  10. Last I checked, Cuba just allowed it's citizens to own microwaves.  But the good news about America is, if you don't like the country you can move to Cuba.

  11. The economy of scale would make it harder in US.

But you have a valid point.

  12. In America, protection is provided, but then, the citizen should be smart enough to use it when instructed to do so.

Bush told people to leave New Orleans three days before the Hurricane struck.

In Cuba, a tiny island, the citizen has no place to leave to, so survival depends on the sole protections provided by the government. If that were the case in the USA, you can bet there would be more provisions, but our situation is not the same.

Too many just choose to ignore warnings when given. You can not blame the government for their choices.
