Question:

Why does DirecTV act as if they are not obligated to carry the extra MTV and VH1 channels?

DirecTV has STILL not added MTV Hits, MTV Jams or VH1 Soul to its lineup! Ugh! Those 3 channels show nothing but music videos all day and it irks me that they do not carry them and somehow they feel no requirement to carry them. They give us BET J (Jazz) and the White VH1 Classic, but no MTV Hits, MTV Jams or VH1 Soul! My sister has digital cable at her house and all 3 are there (MTV Hits, Jams, and VH1 Classic) but it seems that DirecTV and Dish only are interested in VH1 Classic and that bugs me!! Are MTV Jams and MTV Hits and VH1 Soul "too Black"? This makes me mad because they feel no obligation or guarantee to offer those extra channels. Why are they acting this way?

  1. Satellite/cable companies have to pay for each and every channel. These companies have to sign an agreement with what ever television station they want in their lineup. That means they have to pay a monthly fee for each and every channel on their channel line up. Not just HBO, ShowTime what have you. They have to pay for Discovery, DIY, MTV, VH1, ABC, BCS, NBC and so on. So, I would imagine sometime in the near future dirtctv will have, offer more MTV and VH1 channels.

Don't stay with the crappy cable company, believe me, I had (HAD) cable and it sucked big time. Go with satellite such as directv, they have much, much more channels to offer than digital cable. Plus directv is much cheaper then cable with better service, and the picture comes in sooooooo much better, better service, better customer service. Directv is much better all the way around...

I switched over to DirecTV over 5 years ago and I love it. Cable company called me almost everyday, until I told them that I'm gonna sign harassment charges agents them.

  2. It's not they aren't obligated. The cable/satellite companies purchase the use of the channels from that company. If DirecTV doesn't have certain channels it's because they couldn't get a deal. Believe me, they will pass along the cost to the consumer. I can't imagine that these channels are worth paying a lot more. It's better that they offer quality, educational channels such as Discover, History, etc.

  3. i don't think they are obligated to carry those channels...instead of driving yourself nuts get digital cable!!

  4. They're just a business out to make money.  My family was looking at getting DirecTV and canceling their cable service.  Then we realized we had to upgrade to sales pack 3 or whatever just to get the stations we like to watch.  By that point (and that price), we might as well pay for the cable service.

  5. Because they aren't obligated to carry the extra MTV and VH1 channels.
