Why does DivX quality look so garbage?

Everytime I get a DivX movie, it looks so ****. Whats up with the quality? I thought DivX was MPEG-4, more like MPEG-0.5. How do I bring out the light of DivX?

DivX video actually has some of the best quality for compressed video. The problem is definitely not the codec.

The problem is the source. I'm assuming you mean that you downloaded a movie in a DivX format. You are getting a low quality movie. It's going to look bad no matter the format. Garbage in, garbage out.
