Why does Djokovic keep throwing matches? I have never heard any tennis player retire from a sore throat.?

I have nothing personal against him and i was actually a fan until Aus 2008 (somehow my affection died off). Also, why are tennis spectators either (love federer/hate djokovic), or (love djokovic/hate federer), or (love nadal first and federer second, but hate djokovic). Everyone seems to fit into either one of these groups.

  1. The reason you've never heard of a player retiring with a sore throat is because they usually withdraw before the match.

Djokovic gave it a go and realized he couldn't continue. For a set and few games the fans got to see some good tennis. As a spectator I would rather to see something rather than nothing at all.

The focus on Djokovic's retirements is mind boggling considering that Davydenko literally has twice as many (he also retired against Federer a few weeks ago in Estoril) and Djokovic is only ahead of Nadal by two in how many times he retired in his career.

For the second part. I think the you are categorizing fanatics. The majority of spectators enjoy the competition and talent of all 3 guys. Love? Hate? that's fantatic speak. Afterall, it is just a game.

  2. xno1rafafanx said it best. Djokovic is a talented lil putz who disrespects everyone it seems, gives up if he has a hang nail and complains about anything. Rafa is a multi surface talent as he has proven by making it the final of the Championships Wimbledon and pushing Roger hard as well as his improved performance at the Oz Open and other hard court tournies. Novak has been lucky more than anything. Most Pro's agree that they pick their game up when they play Roger because they know they need to and since they have no pressure on them to win. So for any moron that says people just roll over when they play Roger is an idiot.

  3. Because he didn't want to hear that djocovic lost from federer.so he retired from an unreal sore throat.I really want to understand the relationship between having sore throat & playing tennis?

he can't believe that roger in No.1 & no one can play better than roger.I really hate him.

  4. I don't fit into those groups! lol! i like Rafa first then Djokovic. Hehe! It

s not like i hate federer, it just i get bored of him being number 1 for so long!

Going back to your original question, i don't know i think he has some breathing difficulties.

  5. Ok, u people have to watch some more tv, because this is already, old newsss!! And it wasn't a sore throat...jeez....

  6. I agree with you lol somehow we all fit in to one of those categories! I have nothing personal against Novak Djokovic and i have said in previous posts he is a really good player, theres no doubt about that, think of last year the way he`s improved over the course of a year is just great. I still feel Rafa is a better player who still deserves the #2 at this time. Tennis is tennis and im not going argue anymore about who`s at what ranking and who do we like better lol Im a Rafa fan im sure everyone on here knows that :P and i`ll stay that way, i`ll defend rafa all the time no matter what lol! Roger is probably the best player tennis has seen, however i feel his days of dominance are over, with Rafa been at friggin #2 for which seems like a lifetime, ud think hed have had the top spot by now haha :( Then you`ve got Novak playing incredible tennis just now, so its a close call between #1 #2 #3 seeds. Who knows whats going to happen, i say we all just enjoy the tennis and stop bickering. :)

  7. idk.. but i like nadal!

  8. i like the groupings u made, but this topic is getting soooooo old!!!!

u had to be there last weekend, every1 was going at it with Rafa and Nole, arguing their butts off

  9. May  be,  because  he  does not want  to  lose  the  match

directly,he  retires when  he  is   unwell  as  well  as  trailing

  10. lets make a fifth group - like evryone esle but hate djokobitch and that goes for every asslicker who'll defend the lousy champion that he is to their very core.

  11. Good question and observation on the Federer, Nadal and Djokovic preferences. To try and answer your questions:

    1. Throwing matches: a) he doesn't have the guts to finish a match he knows he will lose - particularly to a player like Fed or Nadal - note that his three most notable retirements came against these guys (2 against Rafa - French 06, Wimbledon 07) and Roger (Monte Carlo 08). Appears he would rather retire and cast doubt by stating that the match wasn't over, so anything could've happened (read as - he could've won had he been "fit").

Now you can say you've heard of a player retire from a sore throat...so the next person to retire better find a new one, and if it's Novak, perhaps his dog ate his homework like when he was eight-years old and he just became really upset in conjunction with losing a match to Roger or Rafa.

I used to like Novak until the Aust Open 07 when he opened his big mouth about how he would belt Roger in their upcoming match. Roger cleaned the court with him, and then some. Confidence is one thing; brash, rude arrogance is another. Novak will NEVER be the champion that Roger is and will NEVER get close to Roger's haul of GS titles.

So you can gather I am no Djokovic fan. I have adored Federer since I first saw him play (sadly only as of 2003) when he beat ARod in the Wimbledon SF. Was blown away that day by the near perfection his game showed and some of the shots he pulled off. I didn't think much of it then (more like - ok, here's his one good major tournament)....thankfully not like that. Love Fed to bits. Easy on the eye to watch, stylish game, no grunting, all class on and off the court...where does one stop.

Rafa is great too, but I don't find his game as attractive as Roger's. He is also a real gentleman, especially at such a young age. He has achieved so much more than Djokovic, yet handles himself with far superior elegance and grace.

Furthermore, consider that not many folks like seeing arrogant people trash-talk established, humble champions either. Rafa praises Roger and is very gracious to him, yet this has never impacted his ability and desire to beat Roger. He doesn't need mind games or talk to do this. He does it with his skill and talent.

Which group do you fit in on the Roger / Rafa side if any?

  12. I really don't fit it any of them because I love Federer first, then Nadal, then Djokovic, well it's more of a like towards Novak. I agree his retirements are questionable, but I've not really liked him much since the Aussie Open when he just became this arrogant, cocky person, saying things like he doesn't want to be known for his impressions but for his tennis. h**l the impressions make you relateable, it shows your human. Now he's just this little diva, his family talked trash about Federer and so did he, when he could've been the mature one and stopped them, but he encouraged it. I'll give him credit for being a good player, but he could use some lessons on class from Rafa and Fed. Until Novak stops being such a prick, I don't think he'll ever be a true classy, champion like Rafa, and especially not Federer.

  13. I like all three. I think they are good for one another. A champion is only great if he has strong challengers. Together, they will give us great, close matches. Novak retire from a sore throat because he was trailing the greatest Roger Federer and he know he has no chance of winning unless he is in perfect shape. It was a smart move so he can rest and prepare for the grueling clay season.

  14. Agreed the excuse was lame, it however wasn't sore throat it was strep throat, something more serious than sore throat. He also said he felt dizzy and he suffers from breathing problems. He was breathing harder at the aussie open also. May be if Fed had won that 3rd set, Nole might have struggled later on with his breathing. Now you tell me would you be able to continue if u were finding it hard to breathe? Either way, he's now aware of it, I'm sure he will not do it again even if that means letting the opponent serve ace after ace and him double fault after double fault. I was kinda upset myself because it gives fed fans the opportunity to talk more bull about him and show him in poor light.

You might want to create a 4th group there. Love Nole and Nadal, dislike Fed. I fit in there. I might be the only one though.

Regarding your first 2 groups, I think fed fans dislike nole because they see him as a serious threat to fed's #1 ranking. They were ok with Rafa because his kinda game makes him struggle on surfaces other than clay.

    *EDIT*

only dolt-inators think Novak is lucky (US Open 2007, how lucky he was there for one instance) I guess that would make Rafa also lucky then (wimbledon 07 final). Only dolts think guys like davy and gasquet are good (gasquet lost again today, how talented he is!).

  15. Yes, i guess everyone fits in one of these groups. Djokovic..he is really good player and even if i don´t like him that much i can´t deny that he has a lot of qualities. He plays sometimes at a very high level and that´s why he is nr 3. I guess it is his character that i don´t like. Maybe i am wrong. But he just seems so conceited and the fact that he always retires when he feels like loosing.. but i don´t know.. perhaps  i don´t like him that much because he threatens to take Rafa´s place. And i´ve been Rafa´s fan for a long time now:) A sore throat. That is just an excuse. He must really learn to loose. I mean you can´t win all your life. I think that if he leaned that, he would be appreciated by more people. I would appreciate him more...
