Why does Dover have 42 pitstalls? Do you think it makes it more interesting and will they add a 43rd stall in the near future? No worries about sharing stalls today because surely at least one of these cars are out of the race.

  1. Dover didn't run 43 cars until the 1990s, when NASCAR mandated the rule that 43 start at all tracks.

Dover doesn't have room for 43 stalls because of the horse track in the center.  And, Delaware has a law or something that requires them to have the race track if the have casinos.  Since they don't want to close the casinos, they have to have the horse track there.  (I didn't look this up, so I may have incorrectly remembered a detail, but I think I am right).

  2. They don't need that many pit stalls. After a few laps a 1/4 of the field will be taken out anyway at Dover so why have 43 pit stalls?
